Hello, My name is Shelly MacSweeney. I hope I can help you. I know that choosing a therapist can be daunting. Please know that I understand. There are so many therapists and types of therapy, it’s hard to know which will suit you best. Taking the first step on the therapeutic journey is a brave one. Taken together with your therapist, this journey should leave you feeling empowered to manage whatever life throws at you. I work with a wide variety of issues including anxiety, depression, grief, loss, self-harm, suicidal ideation, work-life balance, self-worth, relationship issues, sexuality issues, LGBTQI+ friendly and trauma (both PTSD and Complex PTSD). I have personal and professional experience in a variety of pregnancy-related issues including birth trauma and matresence (the transition to motherhood), pre and support, fertility issues, adoption, post-natal depression, and miscarriage. I have a particular interest in childhood emotional neglect and developmental trauma. With the right support, deep wounds from childhood can be healed. I provide professional, warm and respectful support for individuals 18 years and over through one-to-one sessions. I am also available for online sessions. I work from a humanistic, integrative, psychodynamic, CBT, person-centred, psychoeducational perspective. So what does that mean? Well no two people are the same so I use different approaches depending on each client and their personal needs. The foundation

Notable progressionAnnette, Ireland, 16 05 17

My 14 year old daughter has been attending sessions with this clinic for the past couple of months with an ACL Injury due to playing hockey. We found Stephen to be very professional friendly & excellent at what he does. Teenagers find physio's boring and tedious, but he made the session interesting and fun. He kept her interested and following the program. She actually enjoyed going every week and her progression was notable when she followed his instruction. She now follows a program set out by Stephen so that this injury will not occur again. Excellent cannot fault the therapy my daughter received.

I felt very comfortable from the get-go and would absolutely recommend her to anyoneJack, UK, 14 09 18

I went to Brenda after hitting some difficult times in my life and did one to one sessions and some cognitive behavioural therapy. I found it exceptionally useful, being taught the skills I needed for whenever hard times hit again and I still practise them daily. Brenda was exceptional, extremely approachable and wasted no time in getting right into it. I felt very comfortable from the get-go and would absolutely recommend her to anyone.

Family have noted how I have changed and that has been for over a few weeksMarie, Ireland, 16 11 22

I have made great decisions since I have gone to Brian Griffin. Unfortunately I have been unable to attend for a while but hope in the new year I can return (due to medical problems). Family have noted how I have changed and that has been for over a few weeks. So I can imagine if I was able to continue with Brian Griffin even if its next year it would be worth it I came to Brian Griffin with a lot of problems but he was able to evaluate where I was going. I know I do need to finish which I hope is in the New Year.

Counselling works with more surface level issues like day to day difficulties and helps to focus on the issues that arise in your present life.  The difference between Psychotherapy & Counselling is that Psychotherapy works at a deeper level, looking at past traumas & child hood issues.  Counselling works more in the present with issues in day to day living. Counselling can help with difficulties in decision making, anxiety, stress, panic attacks, depression, bullying.  Counselling can work short term giving support in a particular difficulty in your life and help you move forward.  A therapist may use both counselling and psychotherapy to help with the issues you are facing.
Psychotherapist Consultation up to €65
Psychotherapy works with unconscious processes to help support you in becoming more structured and better able to cope in your day to day life.  Looking at past traumas and childhood issues to help better understand present behaviour.

I work with a broad range of issues.  However I also specialise in LGBTQ+ and Gender, Sexual & Relationship Diversities (GSRD) therapy.  This means that I will provide full acceptance of who you are, regardless of how you identify. I view no person or issue as being more important than another. I see both of us working together as unique individuals.  I've seen how life can throw many different challenges which can cause us to question our sense of self. Yet I also believe that such challenges can offer us opportunities to develop and grow - perhaps even flourish! I work in collaboration with you, on your well-being journey. My aim is to help you find a better sense of who you are.  This is done in a safe & confidential space where you are listened to, heard and where you feel accepted for being yourself. What you bring, I feel we will be able to explore together, leading to greater self-acceptance & better inner peace Of course contacting a counsellor or therapist can feel daunting. I invite you to click on the link to my website, where you can learn a little about me and where you can see if you think I may be a good fit for you. If and when you are ready, feel free to get in touch, where we can have a brief chat and to see how I can help you on your well-being journey.
