Hydrotherapy entails whole body exercises that take place in our state of the art 34°C warm water pool. The warm temperature of the water allows your muscles to relax and eases the pain and stiffness, making it easier to exercise. Hydrotherapy can relieve painful joints, increase the range of movement in your joints and improve your muscle strength. At Kiltipper Woods our hydrotherapy pool contains an underwater treadmill, resistance jets, and massage wand.The power resistance jets provide resistance for a range of motion exercises, improving the patient’s cardiovascular stamina. The wand offers patients the ability to massage and loosen muscles. The pool is easily accessible to suit all patients and can be accessed by patients in wheelchairs. It is also important to note that you do not have to be able to swim to benefit from aquatic therapy. All our hydrotherapy sessions are conducted by chartered physiotherapists who are highly trained and experienced in hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy sessions can take place in a group setting or on a one to one basis.At Kiltipper Woods we use a Swimex 1000-T hydrotherapy pool that is fully equipped with laminar water current technology which your therapist uses to optimise the intensity of your workout. The pool also utilises an integrated underwater treadmill in tandem with the water current technology and is the only pool of its kind in Ireland.Hydrotherapy is the safest and most progressive form of rehabilitation because it takes place in a gravity neutral environment, thus decreasing impact and trauma on weight bearing joints during rehabilitation. Hydrotherapy,or water therapy, is the use of water (hot, cold, steam, or ice) to relievediscomfort and promote physical well-being. The recuperative and healingproperties of hydrotherapy are based on its mechanical and/or thermal effects.There are numerous proposed mechanisms of action of hydrotherapy, depending onthe specific technique used. It exploits the body's reaction to hot and coldstimuli, to the protracted application of heat, to pressure exerted by thewater and to the sensation it gives. Alternating cold with hot temperatures issuggested to alter blood circulation due to enhance the immune system andimprove digestion. Applying warmth to skin surfaces does cause vasodilatationwhich brings blood to the body's surface. Cold temperature has the contraryeffect. When you submerge yourself in a bath, a pool, or a whirlpool, youexperience a kind of weightlessness. Your body is relieved from the constantpull of gravity. Water also has a hydrostatic effect. It has a massage- likefeeling as the water gently kneads your body. Physical therapy in water makesuse of buoyancy (ability to float) to reduce work against gravity, as well asthe resistance of motion through water.

The condition of the patient is examined by our doctors, who work closely with the head physiotherapists, in order to determine whether the patient can benefit from our therapy and devise the patient's rehabilitation goals based on the diagnosis, anamnesis, current condition and prognosis for improvement.
