Dr Robin Rother - Oral Surgeon at Minto Dental Practice & Implant Centre - Edinburgh

Dr Robin Rother

Job Title:
  Oral Surgeon
  Cosmetic Dentistry, Implantology
BDS Interest in Oral reconstructive surgery and cosmetic dentistry, Implant Clinical Coach. GDC No. 50977
Robin Rother qualified from Edinburgh University in 1977. He gained a Blue for athletics, winning the British University Sports Championships and represented Scotland internationally. His life-long interests include aviation as a multi-engined, aerobatic and instrument pilot. He has a strong artistic flair working in fold and on paper, skills that are put to effective use in dentistry.
Dentistry has been a passion for Robin. After qualification he started off in general NHS practice. He taught anatomy at the Edinburgh Medical School to both undergraduates and post-graduates. He spent some time as a medical student as well, intent on a career in maxillo-facial surgery but dentistry won through, allowing him to combine his surgical, artistic and dental skills to improve the quality of his patients lives. Implant dentistry is his prime interest. He undertook further training in Sweden, Germany and the USA. Most of his clinical time is taken up with the surgical and dental reconstruction of broken mouths. He lectures and tutors on the subject. With 20 years experience in the field he undertakes complex procedures on a daily basis. Much of his work is via referral from colleagues. He also teaches these skills to other Dentists, developing and expanding their skills. Practitioners from as far away as Denmark shadow his procedures. His intention is to try to make his work blend naturally into the patients mouth as if it was always there.
Robin is a member of an influential implant advisory board. He has an interest in technical and dental materials development and is a former member of the European Dental Advisory Board of 3M. He has used CAD Cam techniques for 10 years. He has participated in implant research and clinical trials. His present interests and memberships are mainly implant related but also include laser dentistry (used on a daily basis), oral and maxillo-facial radiology. He contributes photo-journalistic articles to the professional journals and maintains a broad range of interests bringing new developments to his practice when appropriate.
Robin and his support team have placed and maintained several thousand implants. These date back to the early 1990s.  Many of these cases involved bone augmentation or soft tissue grafting. Robin was an early user of alternative materials for use in graft cases and worked with colleagues in the University of Benne to validate the results of bone regeneration procedures. He also has been involved in clinical trials over many years, most notably the development of micro-thread features in dental implant design.

Dr Alejandra Garcia Loureiro

Job Title:
Lic Odont Santiago De Compostela 2002 GDC No. 81573
Alejandra graduated in 2002 in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and shortly after moved to Edinburgh. She had always been curious about what it would be like to move to a different country, and was looking for an adventure! Alejandra did not know anybody and at the time couldnt speak very good English which was a challenge. It was not long however before she fell in love with the city and decided to stay for good.
Alejandra decided to be a Dentist when she was a child and dentistry became her passion. She enjoys post graduate education as it helps to achieve the highest level of work. Ajendra believes that a healthy looking smile can make you feel a million dollars. She also has a special interest in root canal treatments.
Alejandra joined the Minto Dental Practice in 2009 and loves being able to really make a difference to her patients dental experiences. One of the things the Minto practice excel in is carefully listening to the patients needs and problems. The practice takes the time to listen in order to find the ideal treatement for you. This is one of the many reasons why our patients recommend friends and family to come and join us.
In her spare time Alejandra enjoys travelling and discovering different cultures and lifestyles. She says "I find it fascinating to explore new places. I love spending time with friends, we always have a good laugh! I find swimming very relaxing and I have recently started cycling and pilates, of which I love. I also used to play competitive volleyball. I think there is nothing like a good book, I love to curl up in bed or on the sofa with a good one".
