What are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells, also called dental laminates, that are used to cover unsightly teeth and give patients attractive smiles. They are easy to place and can quickly improve the smile of patients with dental cracks and stains, and for patients who have gaps between their teeth.

What is the difference between Veneers and Dental Crowns?

Veneers cover only the front portion of teeth. Crowns cover or replace the entire tooth. Crowns are therefore thicker than veneers. A major portion of the tooth needs to be reduced before placing a crown while only a small portion of the tooth needs to be reduced before placing a veneer. A crown is used for covering damaged teeth and is also placed over a dental implant. A veneer is only used for cosmetic purposes.

What are the best types of Veneers?

The best type of veneer depends on the needs of each individual patient. Some veneers can be easily placed without much tooth preparation. Some veneers are suitable for severely damaged teeth. Some veneers can be easily made in the clinic and patients do not have to wait long for their placement. Some veneers are cheaper than others and are suitable for patients looking for a low cost option.  Your dentist should discuss the options with you so you can make the best choice.

How long before you can eat after getting Veneers?

Dentists recommend that patients eat only soft foods after veneers are placed, and for the first few days, until they get used to them. Veneers are normally bonded firmly to teeth and patients can eat any type of food.

What are Veneers made from?

Veneers are made from ceramic, composite resins or zirconium.

I have had numerous treatments over the years at Slateford Dental Care. Root canal treatment, fillings, and a tooth capped, not only has the experience been a pleasant one but the staff treat you with the utmost of care which makes you relax. Ever stage of your treatment is explained fully, this not only reassures you, but also lets you no that there are no nasty surprises when your treatment has ended. This clinic was recommended to myself and now all my family are registered here. there are clinics locally nearer my home that I could attend but I have chose to stay with this practice and have attended for more than 20 years due to the excellent care and quality of staff. The clinic is very modern and welcoming with a very relaxing atmosphere my personal opinion is that you would be hard pushed to find better dental care anywhere 5 stars from me.

One of the most patient people I have everJulie, UK, 24 08 17

I started to visit Martin about 2 years ago and would like to share my experience with anyone who has a fear of the dentist. It took me 2 visits with my husband coming along for moral support, to get through the doors of the practice and into the chair. Martin is one of the most patient people I have ever met and made sure I was at ease before even asking me to open my mouth. I needed a considerable amount of work done which was done under anesthetic over a couple of visits. I am happy to say I now go to see my hygienist Jill every 3 months, who is brilliant at her job and is completely aware of my fear. She compliments Martins good work in every sense with the same approach, friendly, smiley, calming and reassuring attitude towards your first and all follow-up visits. I continue to see Martin every 6 months for check ups. I cannot praise this practice enough, please go along and let them try to help you overcome your fear in the same way as they have done for me. I now go alone to my appointments and don`t have sleepless nights before a visit. I knew I needed to go to the dentist so asked my husband to have a look for somewhere and he researched clinics in the area and thought this would fit the bill. All the staff are friendly and smile as you come through the door it has a very calm feel and if like me you are petrified they make sure you don`t wait too long for your appointment.

Veneers from £450
Dental veneers can be placed to improve both the shape and colour of teeth. They are placed on the front surface of the tooth being attached with a dental resin adhesive. They are an excellent way of conserving tooth tissue as very little preparation of the tooth needs to be carried out and sometimes no preparation of the tooth is done so maximum tooth tissue is preserved. Our dentists often include a course of tooth whitening in a treatment plan involving veneers especially when tooth colour is being considered.

Dental Implants from £2200
Dental Implants are small titanium rods that are placed into your bone and allowed to become part of the bone or “osseointegrate”. After a period of osseintegration, usually around 3 months, the implants can be loaded with the supra structure to replace the missing dental components in your mouth.

Teeth Whitening
Teeth are stained by the food and drinks we consume. The natural bright white shade becomes darkened due to smoking, coffee and red wine. Simple and successful method of lightening the shade of your teeth is teeth whitening. The treatment includes your trays, gel and two or three visits. “Enlighten” is the leader in teeth whitening technology, but Boutique and POLA are good as well.
