What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are artificial screws made of titanium or zirconium oxide that connect the jawbone and a dental restoration like a crown or denture. They are also called ‘endosseous’ implants or fixtures. They are an artificial tooth root. Once implanted, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone like part of the body. Dental surgeons perform bone grafting procedures to hold the implant in place for patients who do not have enough surrounding bone structure, or graft bone to help connect implants to the maxillary sinuses on either side of the nose when placing dental implants in the upper jaw.

How long does it take to fit a Dental Implant?

The time taken for inserting dental implants depends on the bone structure and needs of each individual patient. Some implant procedures take about 15 minutes while others may take up to two hours. Implant procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. Intravenous sedation is used for the comfort of anxious patients.

How long does it take to recover after getting a Dental Implant?

Recovery time after a dental implant procedure may take four to six weeks or up to 12 weeks for some patients. Patients can travel one day after the insertion of a single dental implant. Patients who require multiple dental implants or supporting surgical procedures should wait for around two weeks before travelling. They should meet the dental surgeon to get a certification of being fit to travel before embarking on their journey.

What should I do after getting a Dental Implant?

Patients should rest and avoid exertion after surgery. They should also avoid vigorously brushing their teeth or rinsing their mouth.

What are the alternatives to Dental Implants?

Alternatives to dental implants include fixed bridges and dentures.

Dental Brush

(805) 856-6122 Avenida De La Amistad #1305, Empleados Federales, Tijuana, 22010
Rating from 30 Reviews We feel we made a good decision to have the work done in Mexicodean, Canada, 04 May 16

My wife and I are from Canada and in addition to our holiday to the USA, planned on going to a dentist in Tijuana. I researched the prospect of Mexican dentistry before leaving home and also the reviews online for various clinics. En route we selected Dental Brush. My wife had a crown replaced and I had a crown put on an existing root canal plus had a root canal done and crown put on a different tooth that was bothering me for a couple weeks prior. I also had a tooth removed and an implant put in. As I had significant bone loss in the area, it was decided the dental surgeon would do a bone graft as well. I plan on returning in a few months to have the crown made for it and installed. As doing an implant wasn't on my list of things going in, I had some concerns and apprehensions. Dr. Leon explained the procedures in detail ahead of time and answered all my questions to put my mind at ease. He doesn't rush and is very conscientious in his work, as are the other staff. Overall, we feel we made a good decision to have the work done in Mexico. It is definitely a viable alternative to local dentistry back home, at a reduced cost. The cost is what motivates most people to consider Mexican dentists and there are dental offices everywhere in Tijuana. But like shopping anywhere, you need to do your homework. We did and feel we made a good choice choosing Dental Brush. I had called a few different clinics while still travelling but after my first phone contact with the clinic's front desk person Elizabeth, my decision was made. She answered all my questions satisfactorily (in excellent English) and was very easy to converse with. Future correspondence was handled by Antonio as well as orienting/coordinating at the clinic when we arrived. And I have to say, this guy really went the extra mile for me. I know this site is about dental experiences only, but the day before my second appointment at the clinic, while touring around Tijuana, I experienced a potentially serious problem in one of my eyes. When I went to the clinic the next day for my crowns and implant surgery (which would in itself be stressful) I was facing a huge unknown with my eye. I informed Antonio and asked if he could call around for me to eye clinics. He did so while I was having my dental work done. When my procedure was finished he had an appointment lined up with an Ophthalmologist at one of the best clinics in Mexico. Another staff member drove us there and waited with us while I had my consultation then drove us back to Dental Brush. Would another clinic gave done this to help in an urgent situation? I don't know. This review is in gratitude for all the assistance we received for our dental needs and my eye need. Thanks!

Rating from 3 Reviews A great deal for the work we had doneRich, US, 17 Mar 18

This was our first visit for implants. I had 2 implants and one crown. My girlfriend had 2 teeth extracted and 2 implants for her lower partial. We were treated very well. Everyone was professional and informative. Answered all our questions. The best staff you could ask for. Eric, Lucy and Natalie are great! All the nurses that assisted the dentist were fantastic too. The clinic was clean and organized. All the staff was helpful and made us feel at ease. Great location for our first visit to Tijuana in many years. I paid $2750 and my girlfriend paid $2900 - a great deal for the work we had done! We have a few more visits to complete the work and look forward to seeing Lucy, Natalie and Eric! I highly recommend Revolution Dental Care

Prize Smile Mexico

Rating from 3 Reviews They lived up to everything they said and moreBenjamin, Mexico, 04 Oct 17

I am a person with no dental insurance. I quickly realized that I can not afford dental work in the US. However, I quickly did the research and realized it was a much better option to visit Mexico (even with insurance). I like the treatment on the phone from Frank and Dr. Isabel. I was convinced that their primary concern is my oral health. Needless to say, they lived up to everything they said and more. I will recommend all my friends and family to the Prize Smile team. I am very pleased and I can actually say that I can't wait to go back! Dr. Isabel is a lovely human being with wonderful skills. The best dental experience ever! Dr. Isabel saved me.

The clinic took care of everything

by Joni, US, 08 Jul 2017
My daughter and I second visit complete! Our first visit was in November to begin our restoration. We did not know what to expect but with no dental insurance, it was the best option. We were met at the San Diego airport and the office took care of everything as our restoration plan began. Our return trip went even better as we knew what to expect. Again the staff picked us up at the San Diego airport and brought us to our Hotel in Tijuana. A beautiful hotel with English speaking staff. Our last visit we stayed at the beach resort in Rosarita but with this visit, we wanted to experience the city. The next day, the dental staff picked us up for a full day of making impressions for some new teeth and an unexpected root canal. Not fun, but no pain, just discomfort of dental work. We needed to give the lab a few days to make our crowns so we visited the shops and even drove to a beautiful beach for one day. We used Uber for transportation. We were coming from Washington State so used this time as a mini-vacation, we even crossed the border for a few days in San Diego to take the boys to Legoland. When our new teeth were ready the dental office again picked us up and brought Review text Thank you for everything including our smiles to doctors and staff of Smiles 4 Ever. I was so happy with my new bite and no one could tell which was my new teeth and which was my natural ones. My daughter had lost a front canine tooth, she was devastated and stopped smiling. She had 1 implant and 3 crowns done and her smile is beautiful! All our dental work, the flight, hotel and vacation expense (with two boys age 7 and 9) was less than half of the cost of just the dental work at home. Now our restoration is complete and we will return in about 6 months for strictly cosmetics. Thank you for everything including our smiles to doctors and staff of Smiles 4 Ever.

My experience was very satisfying at Trust Dental under the care do Dr Arthur Mandez. My treatments included extractions, bone grafting in three quadrants, sinus lift and implants. All of this was done in one sitting, pain free and with no swelling or bruising following. From shuttle service to in-office care, the staff was patient, helpful, and caring. The equipment is first rate. All in all, I would highly recommend this clinic.
