Dr Hassan graduated with a Bachelor in Dental Surgery from the University of Malaya in 1983. He served tha Malaysian Army as a dental officer and then as Consultant Orthodontist for 22 years before retiring and joining the private sector.
Whilst in the Army he was also seconded for a year in 1988/89 to serve as a dentist in the United Nations Transition Assistance Group in Namibia.
Between 1991-1995 he went to England to pursue his post graduate studies in Orthodontics when he was appointed as an Honorary Registrar at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
He graduated with a Masters in Dental Science (Orthodontics) from the Liverpool University in 1995 and also earned his membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (M Orth RCS) in the same year.
He went on to serve the Malaysian Armed Forces as Consultant Orthodontist at the Lumut Naval Base Hospital from 1995 until 2005 where he retired with the rank of Colonel (Dr).
He also had a stint as an honorary lecturer in the University of Malaya’s Oral Surgery Department between 1996-1998.
Currently Dr Hassan is the Consultant Orthodontist at Smileshop and is also an honorary lecturer at the Orthodontic Department, Faculty of Dentistry UKM, supervising post-graduate students. He is a fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists, member of the Malaysian Association of Orthodontists and member of the Malaysian Dental Association.
For his excellent and exemplary service to the nation, Dr Hassan was awarded the Darjah Pahlawan Angkatan Tentera (PAT) and Darjah Kesatria Mangku Negara (KMN) by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong in 2001 and the Darjah Setia Mahkota Johor (SMJ) by the Sultan of Johor in 2004.
