By piercing most of the constant teeth have the so called deep fissures. They are spots, where food retains. As a result from the processes of degradation it forms an acid environment and that assists for caries formation. In order to prevent this process, special materials are used, such as: sealants, with which these fissures are filled. The manipulation is absolutely painless. This takes about 10 minutes at the dentist's. The sealing of the deep fissures and fossae of the intact first permanent molars is the most effective means of dental cavity prevention, as these zones are predilection places for plaque retention; they are difficult or impossible to remove and/or treat with fluoride prophylaxis and respectively treated for caries formation. Their sealing with sealants (sealants, glass ionomer cements), which also liberate fluoride ions, should be carried out within two years from their boring, a period in which the enamel "matures" and reaches higher level of mineralisation.
