Area Mentis Psychotherapy - Logo

Area Mentis Psychotherapy

1A Swanville Place, Rathmines, Dublin, d6
The Area Mentis Centre provides psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and psychological services for any individual experiencing mental pain. Our practitioners have dedicated their lives to the study of how people think, act and communicate.Talking is the cornerstone of the treatment the purpose of which is to learn about oneself. Through this process, practitioners help people to identify the source of their problems and address them. Each individual's treatment is characterised by an intensely personalised approach, greatly increasing the probability of change This treatment effects change through regular weekly sessions, in which the relationship between practitioner and client supports a therapeutic discourse. During treatment, the client develops insight and self-awareness, integrating those past events that may have been traumatic or unsayable into a coherent narrative. Supported by the relationship to the therapist/analyst, the individual can scrutinize the stress and suffering in their lives within the context of their life-history: where it originates, how it is manifested and what coping behaviours have evolved to deal with it.

Therapy Space - General Practice in Ireland

Therapy Space

Integrative Psychotherapy Practice, 143 Upper Rathmines Road, Rathmines, Dublin 6
Sometimes in life we can experience periods of inner conflict and confusion.  This may be due to traumatic past experiences or changes we may face in our lives presently. My practice offers a safe and confidential space in which to explore your issues with an experienced therapist. Counselling and Psychotherapy can help make sense of feelings, thoughts and behaviors which can cause inner conflict and confusion. This in turn can lead to a lesser quality of life. Making sense of these issue can help develop a greater sense of self awareness. I help bring about change by taking unconscious drives into a conscious space in which we can work together to implement meaningful change in your life. I am an Integrative Psychotherapist working from a Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytical framework. I also incorporate elements of Gestalt and Existential Psychotherapy in my work with clients.  I am a Pre-Accredited Member of the IACP ( Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy ) and I am an Associate Member of the IPAA ( Irish Psycho-Analytical Association ). I am fully insured to work within the guidelines and best practice of my associations and current government legislation. I hold a Certificate in Counselling Skills from NUI Maynooth and a B.Sc. Great experience.Gemma, Ireland, 11 07 16

I find Laura very easy to talk to and open up to. She's a great listener and not a bit judgmental. It wasn't an easy thing to admit to myself that I needed help, but I wish I had done it ages ago. She's very understanding and worked with me to help me through my dark time. I've since come through it but continue seeing Laura, as it's great to know that she is there. The clinic is in an ideal location for me and easily accessible. Great location, as I am also based close to the city center. Relaxing atmosphere.

I can make clear-headed decisions and haven't felt bad about myself sinceGavin, Ireland, 16 03 18

I was suffering from a deep depression that lasted more than 10 years. It got really bad that I eventually agreed to get some help because I feared it getting worse. I had little hope that I was going to get better when I started but Brian was very open and understanding. He was always patient with me and was quite an engaging. I felt very comfortable talking about my issues. I would return weekly for more help, looking for a way to beat my depression. Something I thought was impossible but Brian didn't give up and sure enough one week he helped me turn the entire issue on its head and I got an entirely new perspective. I put in my own effort at the request of Brian and worked on facing the issues directly rather than ignoring them. I've become more positive and optimistic and the people around me have noticed. I can make clear-headed decisions and haven't felt bad about myself since. My sincere thanks to Brian for helping me in a dark time. The clinic was quite cosy and homely. I would sit in a quiet, well lit room on a comfortable couch. Water was available at any time. I felt very at ease when I attended my sessions.

The procedure was very goodKieran, South Africa, 01 09 17

The Dublin Hypnosis Clinic gave me a fairly good Hypnotherapy appointment. Though I was not happy with the price I was charged, which I felt was a little expensive, the procedure was really good. The staff were great, and I could locate the clinic very easily.

His approach is oriented to achieving practical results and changing everyday life for the betterMichele, Ireland, 09 03 19

I contacted Marcello in March 2018 because I was dealing with a strong fear of flying and I was avoiding to take aeroplanes for 1 year (during which I worked with other professionals with no success). Four months after I started to fly again, and I took 5 flights before the end of the year. We worked a lot on the connections between fear and my life so that I learned a lot about how to manage myself in many difficult situations. I believe that Marcello has great talent as a psychotherapist. I liked a lot the fact that his approach is oriented to achieving practical results and changing everyday life for the better. Highly recommended!

I found relief nearly instantlyClaire, Ireland, 12 09 19

I was struggling with misophonia and was having trouble processing certain sounds and it got to a point where I couldn’t eat dinner with my family and was struggling to leave my room. I had read online that cognitive behavioural therapy had helped others with misophonia so I decided to give it a go. I booked an appointment with Renata and saw her the next day. Renata was extremely welcoming and very kind. Renata recommended some techniques for me to try to help distract me from the sounds that were bothering me and I found relief nearly instantly. Renata also helped me with any negative thoughts I was having and was very accepting and made me feel very comfortable.

Anger Management
Anger is a part of being human.  It’s perfectly healthy and normal to feel angry when you’ve been mistreated or wronged.  It is not possible to ‘get rid’of anger, as some people who come to counselling wish, because it is a natural feeling that is essential to our survival.  It is, however, possible to learn to manage angry feelings and behaviours. Sometimes people explode and act out their angry feelings, whilst others hold their anger in and deny that it exists.  The feeling isnt the problem—its what you do with it that makes a difference.  Anger becomes a problem when it harms you or others.  If anger isn’t managed and expressed safely, it can lead to all sorts of problems e.g. domestic violence, anger on the road,self-harm, depression, destructive relationships, chronic health issues. Learning to manage angry feelings takes work, but the more you practice, the easier it will get.   In counselling for anger management, we explore how you express your anger, or don’t, and the impact this has in your life.  If you have a hot temper, you may feel like it’s out of your hands and there’s little you can do to tame the beast but you have more control over your anger than you think.  Counselling can enable you to: Identify your patterns of behaviour around feeling angryManage your angry feelings, from small irritations to fully-fledged angerMake safe choices about how you express angry feelingsLearn how to make a complaint to someone elseSet clear and consistent boundariesLearn how to say ‘No’ and mean itExplore ways to express anger physicallyLearning to control your anger and express it appropriately will help you build better relationships, achieve your goals, and lead a healthier, more satisfying life.
Psychotherapist Consultation free
People usually seek out a counsellor or psychotherapist when they feel stuck or overwhelmed by a particular issue or difficulty. You may have already sought the help of others, such as family, friends or your doctor, but sometimes it can be very helpful to be listened to by someone neutral and where the focus is on you and your experiences. As a trained, experienced counsellor, I provide you with a safe, confidential,non-judgmental space in which you can come to understand yourself and your feelings more fully, and in which new perspectives and new possibilities for change can emerge. My role is to support you and facilitate self-exploration, change and growth. You won’t ever be told what to do or be pressurised into making changes you don’t want to make.  I provide you with a warm, respectful, accepting environment which is based on support and confidentiality.  This creates a trustworthy atmosphere where you can feel secure enough to work on any difficulties. If you have any questions or would like to arrange a consultation you can contact me in confidence either by telephone or by email: I offer an introductory consultation, with no further obligation, to provide the opportunity for you to explain what has brought you to counselling, to see whether you feel comfortable working with me and to assess whether we both think counselling will be helpful.
