I've changed a lot of things in my life positively due to the therapistSarah, dublin, 04 10 18

I went to Renata for quite a while as I really struggled to make a change and to see things differently. I was gradually suffering from anxiety and depression that literally got completely out of hand due to life situations and I could no longer see clearly. It was time to do something and thank goodness I found Renata. She really is amazing, inspirational, and really changed my life with Cognitive behavioural therapy. I have come so far to the point my mindset is completely different and on how I view things in general. I've changed a lot of things in my life positively due to Renata.

OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Treatment
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an illness that causes people to have unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and to repeat certain behaviours (compulsions) over and over again. We all have habits and routines in our daily lives, such as brushing our teeth before bed. However, for people with OCD, patterns of behaviour get in the way of their daily lives. Most people with OCD know that their obsessions and compulsions make no sense, but they cant ignore or stop them. What are obsessions? Obsessions are ideas, images and impulses that run through the persons mind over and over again. A person with OCD doesnt want to have these thoughts and finds them disturbing, but he or she cant control them. Sometimes these thoughts come just once in a while and are only mildly annoying, other times, a person who has OCD will have obsessive thoughts all the time .What are compulsions? Obsessive thoughts make people who have OCD feel nervous and afraid. They try to get rid of these feelings by performing certain behaviours according to "rules" that they make up for themselves. These behaviours are called compulsions. (Compulsive behaviours are sometimes also called rituals.)For example, a person who has OCD may have obsessive thoughts about germs. Because of these thoughts, the person may wash his or her hands repeatedly.Performing these behaviours usually only makes the nervous feelings go away for a short time. When the fear and nervousness return, the person who has OCD repeats the routine all over again Some people treat their OCD with just cognitive therapy. Others use only medication while others choose to combine both. The following medicines are also often used to treat depression and include: clomipramine. These drugs can cause side effects such as dry mouth, nausea and drowsiness. Sometimes they also have sexual side effects. It may be several weeks before you see an improvement in your behaviour. Unde
Young adult Psychotherapy
What is psychotherapy? Psychotherapy is the treatment of psychological, emotional, or behavior disorders through the communications between the client and a therapist. The goal of therapy is to establish a central relationship of trust in which the client or patient can feel free to express personal thoughts and emotions and thus gain insight into his condition and generally share in the healing power of words. (Britannica) Will it work for me? Many people feel a great deal of benefit from psychotherapy, some even after comparatively few meetings. Like any other treatment or life experience, psychotherapy may not be suitable for everyone. Each individual has to make up their own mind about whether therapy is helpful for them. Clinical experience shows that if you are motivated and set yourself realistic goals, psychotherapy is likely to be of benefit. How long will it take? The length of treatment will be determined by what you are offered following assessment. How often are the sessions? Most psychotherapy is once weekly, although sometimes client’s circumstances won’t allow for this, so an alternative arrangement will be made. How long does each session last? Individual psychotherapy sessions normally last fifty minutes. How much does it cost? A one on one session costs E85.00. What benefit should I feel afterwards? Research has shown that psychotherapy is effective in reducing symptoms, improving relationships and self esteem. However, as each person is an individual it is difficult to generalize at the beginning as to which benefits a person may feel. The exploration and the journey is often as important as the goal. Does it usually work? A great deal of research has been done which shows C.B.T to be effective. However, it only works as a catalyst with the person undergoing treatment. This means that in order for therapy to be effective, the "work" is not done to you - but by you and with you.Can I stop if I feel its not working? It is always possible to leav
CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive therapy seeks to help the client overcome difficulties by identifying and changing there thinking errors, behaviour, and emotions. This involves helping patients develop skills to change beliefs, identifying thinking errors and changing behaviours. Treatment is based the collaboration between the client and the therapist. Once those thoughts have been challenged, your feelings are easier to change. I believe that most people can overcome any emotional disability by ‘Working harder’. So be prepared for some homework, as C.B.T does require you the client to record your progress and challenge your behaviour in between sessions. But it’s not just about working harder; I will help you to ‘work clever’. The techniques of C.B.T will allow you to see your world from a new angle and this often brings relief and a new found ability to change behaviour that up until now, you may have felt would never change.

It was the first time in a long while I actually felt understoodFrances, Ireland, 26 10 19

Throughout my adult life, I have struggled with depression and anxiety and was always reluctant to seek help. Lately, though I was really struggling to cope from day to day so decided to go for counselling. I made contact with James and arranged an appointment. From the very start, James made me feel welcome and relaxed. It was the first time in a long while I actually felt understood. His ability to listen and empathise really helped me to open up on my issues. Over the coming weeks, James used various techniques to help me challenge my irrational thoughts which we're adding to my anxiety. During one of our sessions, James said something that really stuck with me. He said, "To appreciate the light, first we must learn to sit in the dark." This helped me realise that although I may still suffer bouts of depression, they will pass. Looking back I am so glad that I went to counselling. My sessions with James have really helped and I now feel that I am much more able to cope with life's issues. James is a very down to earth person and a very skilled counsellor whom I'd highly recommend. Thank you so much, James.

Insight Matters provides Individual, Relationship and Group Counselling, Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for a wide range of issues. Psychotherapy and counselling gives you a regular time to think and talk about the issues, which are stopping you from living a happier and fuller life. This is carried out in a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space. It works best when a collaborative relationship is formed between you and your therapist. When you see a psychotherapist or counsellor you get to learn more about yourself and how your mind and body works and the relationship between your beliefs and thoughts and how you feel and behave. The aim of the psychotherapy is lasting psychological change, brought about through increased insight. These changes include: • Becoming more able to feel, identify and express emotions.• Making connections (e.g. between feelings and behaviours or past and present experiences).• Gaining a greater understanding of behaviours.• Developing effective emotional and practical coping strategies.• Re-evaluating perceptions and past experiences, this often leads us to become more self-accepting. Initial Meeting This may be your first time entering therapy; here is a list of what we have seen to be true for many people about therapy: •It takes time to establish a trusting relationship with a therapist. •It is important to go at your own pace and not overwhelm yourself.  •We all resist change. Don’t be surprised if you are tempted to quit right before some real changes or breakthroughs are about to happen. •Becoming more healthy and balanced can feel very unfamiliar and uncomfortable at first. •Therapy is hard work. •Some therapy is short term (usually focusing on one issue and situation) and other therapy may be longer term (more than one or complex issues.)  •Expect your therapist to hold strong boundaries, be ethical, and treat you with respect.  •Remember that therapy, in the hands of a skilled therapist, is a powerful and life-changing experience. It has been shown to be effective for a variety of difficulties and problems. If you need therapy and work as an active participant in your own treatment, you can expect it will be well worth the time and money you invest.
