What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are artificial screws made of titanium or zirconium oxide that connect the jawbone and a dental restoration like a crown or denture. They are also called ‘endosseous’ implants or fixtures. They are an artificial tooth root. Once implanted, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone like part of the body. Dental surgeons perform bone grafting procedures to hold the implant in place for patients who do not have enough surrounding bone structure, or graft bone to help connect implants to the maxillary sinuses on either side of the nose when placing dental implants in the upper jaw.

Implant procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. Intravenous sedation is used for the comfort of anxious patients.

Recovery time after a dental implant procedure may take four to six weeks or up to 12 weeks for some patients. Patients can travel one day after the insertion of a single dental implant. Patients who require multiple dental implants or supporting surgical procedures should wait for around two weeks before travelling. They should meet the dental surgeon to get a certification of being fit to travel before embarking on their journey.

He can provide a full range of private dental treatments including tooth coloured fillings and metal free crowns and can whiten teeth using the most modern whitening products Following a full assessment he can offer wrinkle reducing treatments( using Treatment for lines and wrinkles  materials) and fillers He is a certified practioner in the use of the Inman Aligner. This allows the straightening of front teeth without extractions in a fraction of the time normal orthodontic treatment takes -and at a fraction of the cost The practice has 2 hygienists who can ensure that your gums are kept healthy. Regular attendance at a hygienist prevents bad breath,unsightly staining and reduces the possibility of losing teeth due to gum disease.  The surgery has a television above the dental chair to aid relaxation in the surgery during treatments. I contacted Old Orchard Dentists, Bonnyrigg following online feedback as I needed a new dentist who would be patient with me as I get quite anxious when at the dentist. I am so anxious, I suffered 3 weeks of steadily increasing toothache - they gave me a cancellation appt for the next day and I saw Mr Benoît Loyer. He was very kind and took care to explain all that he was doing. I had full teeth x-rays, we agreed a plan of treatment and he prescribed me some antibiotics for the infected tooth. I went back a few weeks later and had my first treatment, a filling replacement and tooth decay removal, which was quite deep and verging on root canal treatment if it didn't work. He numbed my gum with gel before the anaesthetic injection and I honestly did not feel any pain through the entire treatment. I was back today for another filling replacement and tooth decay removal and this time, we did the injection without any gel and I still did not feel any pain; he explained that if the anaesthetic is injected slowly it doesn't hurt. Again, there was no pain at all during the treatment, he was very careful and explained what he was doing throughout. I highly recommend him as a caring and excellent dentist.
