What is a root canal procedure?

Root canal procedures, or endodontics, is a treatment for the inner pulp of the tooth. They are performed to save teeth from extraction. The dentist or endodontist, a root canal specialist, cleans out the decayed or damaged pulp without breaking the exterior of the tooth root. The cleaned root canal is filled with a bio-compatible rubber-like material called gutta-percha. They are also performed for patients with damaged teeth caused by accidents or fractures. The procedure takes one to two hours to complete.

What are the types of root canal procedures?

Primary root canal treatments are performed using stainless steel files. Stainless steel files could remove only a small amount of infection and could easily break. The more advanced and flexible nickel titanium files do not break easily and are able to clean the entire infected area easily. Rotary instruments used to clean the root canal are quicker than manual instruments. Other advanced root canal procedures make use of ultrasound or laser to effectively clean the root canal.

Is a root canal procedure painful?

Root canal procedures are performed under local anaesthetic. Patients will not feel pain during the procedure.

What is the recovery time after having a root canal procedures?

Patients take about three days to recover after a root canal procedure. Some patients require a week to recover from a root canal procedure.

When can I travel by air after a root canal procedure?

It is safe to travel by air one day after a root canal procedure. Patients should check with their dentist before embarking on their journey. If they feel pain or discomfort, they should postpone their journey until it abates.

What care is required after a root canal procedure?

Patients should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should not eat until the anaesthetic wears off. They should not eat or drink very hot or very cold food for at least a week. They should avoid eating hard food or sticky food. If swelling occurs they should sleep with their head raised for a few days to bring it down.

What are the alternatives to root canal procedures?

Alternatives to root canal procedures include extractions and pulp capping procedures.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT   Experiencing severe pain from a badly damaged tooth? Don’t pull it out just yet. Ask your dentist if a root canal can save your tooth from extraction. When will you need a root canal? “Root canal” refers to the natural cavity inside your tooth that contains the soft dental pulp that is made up of nerves and blood vessels. The dental pulp can be damaged by: ·  extensive tooth decay ·  repeated dental procedures on the tooth·  large fillings·  crack or chip in the tooth·  traumaWhen the pulp is damaged, it decays and becomes infested with bacteria. The tooth becomes infected and abscess or pus forms at the end of the roots. The abscessed tooth can cause pain and swelling that may spread to the other areas of your head and neck. If left untreated, an abscessed tooth can cause other serious dental problems. What is a root canal treatment? Root canal treatment or endodontic therapy is a procedure that removes the infected, injured or dead pulp and nerves from your tooth. The pulp and nerves of the tooth are not vital. Once your tooth fully develops and emerges from the gum line, the function of the pulp and nerves of your tooth becomes limited to providing you sensations of heat and cold. Removing the pulp and nerves will not affect the functioning of the tooth. After the pulp and nerves are removed, the tooth is cleaned, disinfected and filled. A root canal treated tooth should be restored with a crown to protect the tooth, prevent it from breaking and restore its function.

What are the advantages of having Dental Implants? Dental implants provide the best long-term solution to missing teeth. It can restore your smile, enhance your appearance, boost your self-confidence and improve your overall quality of life. 1. They are just like real teeth. Dental implants are designed to look, feel, and function like your natural teeth.    2. They are permanent. Dental implants are permanently fixed and fused to your jawbone. Unlike dentures, you don’t need to take them off.   3. They are very strong. Dental implants are made usually of titanium and zirconia. Both are very strong and durable biocompatible materials.   4. They last a very long time. Dental implants must be cared for just like real teeth. With good oral hygiene, proper care and maintenance, implants can last you a lifetime.   5. They preserve your bone. Dental implants preserve bone, prevent further bone loss and help restore your jawbone structure.   6. They do not damage other teeth. Unlike fixed dental bridges, dental implants do not need anchors or abutments. You don’t need to shave off healthy teeth to support an implant.   7. Very good success rate. Dental implants enjoy the highest success rate among titanium implants.

Rating from 11 Reviews I saved a lot of money, got great treatment and made two new good friendsSteve, Mound, 12 02 18

I needed a crown. The quality of the clinic, the equipment in it and all staff were as good as any dentist I have been to in the USA. The clinic is near the airport and all the major (USA chain) hotels. The prices were so low that a deep cleaning, a crown and a couple of fillings would probably still be cheaper than in the USA, even after paying for the travel and accommodation. I asked about some prices and discovered that you could get a FULL set of implants for little more than the cost of good dentures in the USA. I applied for quotes to many clinics. By a significant margin, Bel-Air handled the inquiry in the most timely and professional way. They communicated with me continually right up to my departure from the USA and as soon as I arrived in Manila. Time difference was never an issue, my contact carried on communication from home. (This was one of the only inquiries where all my communication was directly with the dentist who was going to oversee my treatment.) Manila was just a layover for me and they bent over backwards to accommodate my tight timetable. They even communicated during my long flight directly with a third party who was meeting me at the airport. My first impression as I walked into the clinic was a pleasant surprise - although not opulent, like some USA clinics, it was as clean and bright as any in the USA. The reception was fully briefed and greeted me by name as I walked in the door. All personnel spoke exceptionally good English. The clinic was fully equipped (as good as any USA clinic), including panoramic X-ray equipment. Although they do not make the permanent crowns on site, they use a lab nearby and they had made special arrangements with that lab to fit in with my tight schedule. It was December 27th and I was the last patient of the day. Before I left they offered me and my companion a glass of wine and the two remaining dentists joined in a (single) glass. I am 68 years old and have had dental treatment in both the UK and the USA.This was, by far, the best visit to a dentist that I have had in my life. I saved a lot of money, got great treatment and made two new good friends.

Rating from 4 Reviews Happy with my dental bondingJoy, Dipolog City, 21 01 16

All my life I have been having trouble with my central front teeth, it had gaps! Some dentists that I went before had a hard time restoring it with pleasing esthetics, some even made me a denture in between them. I was not contented at all, and even thought of going to the states just to get my teeth fixed. It was only when I went to the Northwest Dental Atrium that my problem got solved. I got Aesthetic Bonding for diastema. All my life, I never thought there was an easy solution for my teeth. And I am now happy of the result. I highly recommend this clinic. Cozy clinic! Very clean.

Rating from 2 Reviews Great service to clean crown and cement back in placeSteven, Cagayan de Oro, 22 08 15

The dentist called me and set up an appointment for the next day, before she officially opened to fit me in. She looked at my crown that came off and then check the tooth where is was. She was able to clean the crown and my tooth so she could cement it back in place. I think that was great because she didn't try to sell me a new crown or a more expensive implant. Plan to use her for all my dental care. The dentist called my and set up an appointment for the next day, before she officially opened to fit me in.
