What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are artificial screws made of titanium or zirconium oxide that connect the jawbone and a dental restoration like a crown or denture. They are also called ‘endosseous’ implants or fixtures. They are an artificial tooth root. Once implanted, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone like part of the body. Dental surgeons perform bone grafting procedures to hold the implant in place for patients who do not have enough surrounding bone structure, or graft bone to help connect implants to the maxillary sinuses on either side of the nose when placing dental implants in the upper jaw.

How long does it take to fit a Dental Implant?

The time taken for inserting dental implants depends on the bone structure and needs of each individual patient. Some implant procedures take about 15 minutes while others may take up to two hours. Implant procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. Intravenous sedation is used for the comfort of anxious patients.

How long does it take to recover after getting a Dental Implant?

Recovery time after a dental implant procedure may take four to six weeks or up to 12 weeks for some patients. Patients can travel one day after the insertion of a single dental implant. Patients who require multiple dental implants or supporting surgical procedures should wait for around two weeks before travelling. They should meet the dental surgeon to get a certification of being fit to travel before embarking on their journey.

What should I do after getting a Dental Implant?

Patients should rest and avoid exertion after surgery. They should also avoid vigorously brushing their teeth or rinsing their mouth.

What are the alternatives to Dental Implants?

Alternatives to dental implants include fixed bridges and dentures.

Why visit Metro Manila?

Why is Metro Manila a popular tourist destination?

Metro Manila is the national capital area of the Philippines. It consists of the capital city Manila, 10 satellite cities and 5 towns. Most of the major historical sites, museums, leisure facilities and shopping centres in the Philippines are located here. The region also has a vibrant nightlife and eateries selling the best Filipino and western cuisine. Tourists have a wide choice of accommodation types with hotels and motels to fit every budget and houses, condominiums and apartments for rent.

Why is Metro Manila a popular international medical tourism destination?

Metro Manila has excellent, well-equipped hospitals and healthcare centres that are accredited by the Philippines Department of Health and internationally accredited by the JCI and the ISO. They are equipped on a par with hospitals in the west and offer high quality, yet low cost medical and dental services for overseas patients. Most healthcare facilities in Metro Manila have medical staff who speak English and who have trained in the west.  They also offer attractive medical tourism packages for patients, combining treatment and a holiday.

How does a medical tourist get to Metro Manila from the airport?

There are two major international airports in Metro Manila, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the Clark International Airport. Taxis, buses and the Filipino public transportation vehicles called Jeepneys are available at the airports to take visitors to their destinations in Metro Manila. Some hospitals and clinics arrange airport pickup and drop off services for patients.

What are the visa requirements for medical tourists to the Philippines?

There are no specific medical tourism visas required for patients. Patients with valid passports and return tickets from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Kuwait and a few other countries do not require a Visa for staying in the Philippines for up to 21 days. Mini Implants
The Mini Dental Implant System consists of a miniature titanium implant that acts like the root of your tooth and a retaining fixture that is incorporated into the base of your denture, The head of the implant is shaped like a ball and the retaining fixture acts like a socket that contains a rubber O-ring. The O-ring snaps over the ball when the denture is seated and holds the denture at a predetermined leve of force. When seated, the denture gently rests on the gum tissue. The implant fixtures allow for micro-mobility while withstanding natural lifting forces. The most effective use of this unique dental product is stabilization of a lower denture. A majority suffer a great deal of discomfort as a result of lose or ill-fitting dentures. Many denture wearers simply withdraw from any type of social engagement as a result of being compelled to wear them. Moreover, it's not uncommon for family members to complain about a denture wearer's disagreeable breath as a result of food being trapped and decaying under their denture prosthesis. Successful placement of the Mini Dental Implant addresses and solves all of these social and practical problems. Denture patients all over the world have experienced relief from loos or ill-fitting dentures from doctors who are trained to place the MDI. Uniquely, the MDI can be utilized to stablilize a denture in a couple of hours by a trained doctor, with the patient leaving the clinic with a stabilized prosthesis.

Dental Crowns
When a tooth is badly broken, front or back, tooth bonding material alone may not be able to widthstand the forces of mastication or chewing. To give it a full strenth it will have to be held with a crown. This will cover and compensate the lost tooth structure giving it a better look and strength.
