What are fillings?

Fillings or dental fillings are used to repair the damaged surfaces of teeth. The surface of teeth may be damaged by small fractures, damaged enamel or decay. It takes 25 to 90 minutes to place a filling in a tooth.

What different types of fillingsare there?

Dental fillings are made of gold, silver, mercury or amalgam, porcelain or ceramic, plastic, composite resin materials or a glass and acrylic mixture called glass inomer.

Is getting a filling painful?

Preparing the tooth to place a filling by removing the decayed portion using a dental drill should not be painful. Some patients find the preparation procedure uncomfortable and painful. The dentist will administer a local anaesthic to ensure that the patient does not feel pain during the procedure.

How long does recovery after fillings are placed take?

Patients may experience pain or sensitivity for a few weeks after a filling is placed. The area where the anaesthetic was injected will feel sore for a few days. The gums of the patient will also feel sore for a few days.

How do I care for my teeth after fillings are placed?

Patients should not eat for at least three hours till the anaesthesia wears off. They should not eat or drink anything that is too hot or too cold for a few days. They should avoid very hard food. They should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should follow correct dental hygiene and brush and floss their teeth regularly.

What are the alternatives to placing fillings?

Alternatives to dental fillings are dental crowns, inlays or onlays, or tooth remineralization.

They have a lot of integrity and you would never worry about being ripped off hereLaura, Dublin, 04 09 18

I had orthodontic and dental treatment here over the past two years. Very very happy with results. Liam O'Droma is highly skilled and I would trust him completely. He gives honest advice about your treatment options and cares about the treatment he gives you. I am very nervous of needles and when I had to have a filling. I barely felt the needle and it barely noticed I was having a filling! This has never happened before! I'll never go to another dentist now. All the staff are lovely, especially Liam's assistant Suzanna who is just a lovely person and also seems to be very knowledgeable. They have a lot of integrity and you would never worry about being ripped off here. In fact, they are very affordable yet deliver a very high standard of care. You will be in safe hands here. I would highly recommend them, especially if you are nervous about going to the dentist.

The doctor is a gemLeonard, Ireland, 15 08 18

€85 for a molar filling. While Dr Ahmed Mahmond and the two other staff I spoke to were a pleasure. The practice is cramped and in need of a paint, this lets this practice look down. My treatment was interrupted twice by a nurse fetching supplies. The practice is outdated looking still Dr A is a gem, hence I will be back.

The dentist explained everything before he did it, and I didn’t feel any pain during the procedureElaine, South Africa, 12 01 18

I went to South Dublin Dental to have a bridge inserted. This practice was recommended to me by someone else. I paid the price I found on the website, and I think the treatment was worth the money. The clinic was clean, and the dentist himself was rather pleasant. I’m someone who’s always going to be really anxious at a dentist appointment, but he managed to make me feel completely at ease. The dentist explained everything before he did it, and I didn’t feel any pain during the procedure. As far as dentist appointments go, it was a good experience.

Excellent treatment.Mary, Ireland, 05 01 17

I was able to get an appointment today with Dr Bell. He was very honest, intelligent, professional and helpful. The Seapoint Clinic is housed in a lovely old Building beside DART at Seapoint, Monkstown. It is so suitable for Northsiders and Southsiders. The staff were all professional and respectful. I am sorry I did not hear of Seapoint Clinic before now. I was happy with the treatment and I will be recommending this Clinic to my friends. Excellent value. Excellent treatment. Calm atmosphere. OLDE Building in Monkstown / modern style inside. Comfortable, Respectful Staff, Highly qualified Dentists, Highest standard of equipment. Private Nurse. Reception staff five stars. CT Scans available as standard. Great Team of people. Honest.

At The Seapoint Clinic, we use the most effective, modern, tooth-coloured materials. Unlike the more traditional grey amalgam fillings, the tooth-coloured ones look very natural, so no-one will be able to tell you have them.

Dental Implants from €1995
Dental implants are a particular area of expertise at the Seapoint Clinic. Our dentists have been thoroughly trained with some of the worlds greatest experts and have completed hundreds of implant treatments successfully. We have everything we could possibly need onsite to provide implants in a safe and caring environment. We are one of the only dental clinics in Ireland to have a dental CT scanner. This allows us to avoid damage to important nerves in the jaws and to the sinuses. With the CT scanner we can tell before your implant visit whether your bone is suitable, instead of having to undergo a painful investigation under an anesthetic. We have fully computerised planning systems which allow us to perform surgery in a virtual environment to ensure optimum results. Such equipment doesnt come cheap but as we place so many implants we keep the cost to the patient much lower than you would expect for such technological innovation.
