Blepharoplasty is an operation designed to rejuvenate the eyelid area and provide a more youthful appearance.

A condition that is largely related to the ageing process, droopy or sagging eyelids occur when the delicate skin around the eye becomes less supported by the surrounding muscles, causing in the eyelid to drop to a lower level than naturally expected. It is not uncommon for this procedure to be performed alongside other treatments, such as brow lift (in cases where the position of the eyebrow has dropped, impacting on the eyelid) or face lift, to add support for the intended outcomes and produce maximum results for enhancing full facial rejuvenation. Known medically as Blepharoptosis, droopy eyelids can also be a result of trauma or injury, as well as the effects from continuous rubbing of the eyes or tugging on the skin to apply contact lenses or regular eye drops, impacting on the strength of the

Fine lines and wrinkles are a common result of the ageing process. The skin naturally contains two products: collagen and elastin. These naturally occurring elements work to keep the skin’s structure firm and full, with the ability to stretch and contract. As we get older the collagen and elastin can start to reduce and the body becomes a little less efficient in continuing their production as quickly as before. This results in the structure of the skin losing elasticity and strength, therefore allowing the muscles to leave a visible permanent mark on the skin itself which from temporary, becomes permanent and visible not only on animation, but also at rest.

Age takes away much of the fullness in our upper eyelids, causing the looser skin to fall toward the eyelashes and / or fold backward to create prominent creases. Other conditions created by advancing maturity include fine lines, wrinkles, and under-eye shadows or puffiness. Cosmetic eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, corrects this appearance of drooping skin and removes any excess fat on the upper eyelid. It does not, however, erase the fine lines at the outer aspects of your eyes: this condition may be treated by placing fat beneath the skin to plump up any creases. The surgery can take different approaches depending on the patient’s situation: sometimes the eyelid skin is augmented using fat from a different area of your body, or a small amount of skin is removed to improve both the eyelid fold and the contours. Some patients elect to have both the upper and lower eyelids improved simultaneously, while others choose to correct one or the other, especially if problems are more apparent in a single area.
