Breast Implants  
One of the more popular procedures requested is breast augmentation. The reasons for breast augmentation are varied: from being naturally having a genetic predisposition for a skinny body and a proportionally small breasts to “wanting” to retain her previously youthful, well-endowed bossoms that were loss to giving birth and nursing babies or simply to enhance her feminine sex appeal. Not to be outdone are transvestites who go to all extremes to look “naturally” female. There are basically 2 types of shapes of breast implants: round shape and anatomic shape (“tear-drop”). Based on surface; there are 3 types: smooth, textured and polyurethane. Based on composition; 2 types: silicone (medical grade of course) and saline but both in elastomere bags made of silicone. With regards to approaches / incisions to insert an implant; 3 approaches for round smooth silicone implants: Axilla (armpit), peri-areolar or inframammary; for anatomic implants: peri-areolar or inframammary and for saline implants: peri-areolar, inframammary and transumbilical (TUBA). The placement of the implants can be in a subglandular plane or in a dual plane, under the muscle on the supero-medial and subglandular in the infero-lateral pole.

A minimally invasive method of removing excessive deposits of fat, in-between the skin and muscle layers, in unwanted places. Usually these accumulated lumps of fat are resistant to diet and exercise. Most common areas affected are the belly, the sides of the thighs, the sides of the waist and the back of the upper arms. In some, fat also accumulates under the chin, at the chest (in males, resulting in “man-boobs”), back (back “rolls”) and the legs and forearms. The process involves using long thin tubes which deliver the tumescent fluid to the target areas through small cuts in the skin about 3mm to 5mm in size. Strategically located so as not to be readily visible the fat is the removed by applying negative pressure (vacuum) through these long thin tubes we call cannula’s. I recently underwent a blepharoplasty performed by Dr. Romeo Bato in the Philippines, and I strongly recommend him. His extensive knowledge and expertise were evident throughout the procedure, particularly as he engaged five medical students in an in-depth discussion about the anatomy of the surrounding tissues around the eyes. The students were clearly impressed by his teachings and the way he articulated complex concepts during the surgery. Dr. Bato utilized innovative techniques which minimized the risk of undesired effects and showcased his understanding of aesthetic balance. His approach was both practical and impressive, setting him apart from many cosmetic surgeons. Additionally, the cost for the upper and lower blepharoplasty was significantly lower than other clinics I researched. Dr. Bato comes highly rated, and my experience confirms why.
