What is a Butt Lift?

A Butt Lift is the surgical augmentation of the shape of the buttocks. Types of procedures include the placement of silicone buttock implants, fat transfer procedures, fat reduction surgery or a surgical buttock contouring procedure. How is Butt Lift surgery performed?

The surgical procedure takes between two to four hours.  A Brazilian Butt lift involves taking fat from one part of the body that has excess localized fat through liposuction and injecting the fat into, or grafting the fat onto, the buttocks to give them more volume.  This procedure takes about two hours.

Butt Lift procedures are performed under general anaesthesia and patients will not feel pain during it.

Recovery after traditional Butt Lift surgery takes about three months. This depends on each individual patient. Recovery after a Brazilian Butt Lift procedure takes about eight weeks.

Patients can travel by air ten days after either type of Butt Lift procedures. They will need to check with their surgeon about their individual fitness before embarking on their journey.

What are the post-operative instructions after Butt Lift surgery?

Patients should take prescribed medicines correctly and wear their compression garments as prescribed by the surgeon. They should avoid sitting until recovery is complete and sleep on their sides or stomach. They should not lift heavy weights or perform strenuous exercise. They should take walks to reduce swelling. These post-operative instructions are given for all types of buttock lift procedures.

Usually requested for the purposeof removing stretch marks (abdominal striae) from previous pregnancies,  Tummy tuck or Abdominoplasty is not simplyexcising the skin and fat from the level of just above the navel to about 5cmto 7cm above the pubic bone; then pulling down the skin above the navel andstitching it down to the wound edge above the pubic bone.  There is more to it because the muscles infront of your belly, which were weakened by those pregnancies, are broughttogether  in the middle and are stitchedtogether to bring about a strong, flat abdominal wall (sort of an internalcorsette).   In the process, the waist is pulled towardsthe middle and gives you a curve at the flanks of your abdomen. If your skinappears thick and the effects of tummy tuck may not be very obvious, aliposuction procedure can be combined with the tummy tuck to sculpture yourabdominal wall and give you a sexier definition at the level of the belly. In some cases, abdominoplasty ispart of a procedure called Belt Lipectomy, which is usually done in patientswho have had massive weight loss and whose skin sags not only from the frontbut all around the waist like a deflated tire.

When skin over the sides of thenose and mouth start to gather and fold, then it may be time to consider afacelift procedure.  Facelift orRhytidectomy involves pulling up or cutting out a part of the underlying tissueof the face called the SMAS, to tighten it and subsequently pull up or firm upthe skin of the face. The SMAS, which supports the skin of the face, is muchlike the lining of a flimsy blouse.  Pullingthe lining of a blouse in one direction will surely make the blouse move towardsthe direction of the pull.  Since theeffect of gravity manifests itself on the face in the form of more “skin folds”along the sides of the nose and mouth, pulling the SMAS in the oppositedirection rejuvenates the face by repositioning the skin back to its previousyouthful location.  An additional benefitnoted is the pull on the skin of the neck; wherein some, if not most, of thebands on the neck are eliminated and creates an angle between the neck and thechin. There are different techniquesthat can be done in a facelift. Traditionally, the lines of the cut run alongthe temple of the head, within the thickness of the hair, down towards thefront of the ear, around the ear lobe, to the back of the ear, then to the backof the head. The direction of the pull on the SMAS is slightly inclined upwardand towards the back. Any excess skin due to the pull of the SMAS is cut awayand the wound edges are approximated and closed. Now a days, with the trendtowards the minimally invasive procedures, the lines of incision are shorter:running a little back to the hairline of the temple, down the front of the ear (butpartly hidden), and ends at the back of the ear lobe. I employ the short scarwith the use of the Minimal Access Cranial Suspension (MACS) lift technique;wherein, the direction of the pull on the SMAS is vertically upwards. I recently underwent a blepharoplasty performed by Dr. Romeo Bato in the Philippines, and I strongly recommend him.
