Alan Horne Counsellor & Psychotherapist - Alan Horne, Counsellor & Psychotherpist

Alan Horne Counsellor & Psychotherapist

Orwellness of Rathgar, 10 Orwell Road, Rathgar, Dublin 6, D06T265
Hi, my name is Alan Horne. I am a highly experienced, fully-accredited therapist with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP). I believe that the aim of counselling is to provide a safe and confidential environment where the client has an opportunity to work towards living a more satisfactory and productive life. Counselling affords clients a unique opportunity to have a deeper understanding of what is going on in their lives. It can help build confidence and personal development where clients can explore and help bring about a new acceptance of experiences that may have caused them deep hurt and pain. Past experiences can hold them back and prevent them from moving forward with a more positive outlook. I strive to empower clients and encourage them to take control of their lives by changing behaviours that are not beneficial to them. I work as a psychodynamic psychotherapist but influenced by the humanistic and person-centred models. I am integrative in my approach, believing in the individuality of all clients, both in terms of their personalities but also in terms of their life experiences and how they have internalised them. I am non-directive and non-judgmental. I am a person of mature years with much life experience. I am a husband, father, one-time foster father and grandfather and, as a therapist, I am committed to continuous professional development and life-long learning. I have previously worked as an accountant and

My practice offers a safe and confidential space in which to explore your issues with an experienced therapist. Counselling and Psychotherapy can help make sense of feelings, thoughts and behaviors which can cause inner conflict and confusion. This in turn can lead to a lesser quality of life. I help bring about change by taking unconscious drives into a conscious space in which we can work together to implement meaningful change in your life. I am an Integrative Psychotherapist working from a Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytical framework. I also incorporate elements of Gestalt and Existential Psychotherapy in my work with clients.  I am a Pre-Accredited Member of the IACP ( Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy ) and I am an Associate Member of the IPAA ( Irish Psycho-Analytical Association ). I was met in a very warm and welcoming way, with zero judgementsRuth, Ireland, 17 09 19

I have been a client of Sarah's for two years now. I was going through a very dark time when we began and felt very isolated and alone. I was met in a very warm and welcoming way, with zero judgements. I found it very safe to share and explore. I would highly recommend her practice as it helped me through some of the darkest moments in my life. A light.

Overall every session with her was good for meJohn, Ireland, 29 09 24

Diamante my therapist was very pleasant, but at the same time asked me difficult questions. She probed deep into my past, and got me to express feelings that I hadn’t done with anyone before. Overall every session with her was good for me The only drawback for me is that I live over 100 miles from the clinic and I can only get an appointment on Saturday. A midweek appointment would be much easier for me.

I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who has concerns about ADHDHelena, Ireland, 12 10 23

This clinic is an efficient and thorough method of adult ADHD assessment, that uses a battery of recognised psychometric tests to assess symptoms of ADHD in both childhood and adulthood. They also use a range of tests that will rule out other disorders that can mimic the symptoms of ADHD, as well as look for other comorbid disorders that often co-occur with it. It works by having an initial in-depth screening in person after filling out a range of other tests at home, both by yourself and another person who knows you well. If it is decided that ADHD is suspected, you will be referred to a psychiatrist, who will confirm your diagnosis and initiate a treatment that is suitable for you. The psychiatrist will work with you throughout this process and Bergin will provide coaching on ways to improve symptoms as well as practical information on your diagnosis. It is an excellent alternative to the public route if you are in a position to do this as the process is very timely and personally within 3 weeks I had both a diagnosis and treatment initiated! Zac has in-depth knowledge of ADHD and had an excellent way of interpreting what I was saying even when I wasn't sure how to articulate it. He knows the kinds of questions to ask to find all the information he needs. I would recommend attending his clinic prior to engaging with online psychiatry consultants on their own because you will have more confidence in your diagnosis due to the extra time that is taken to look into your symptoms. I am both grateful and excited for the future having finally pinpointed an issue that has been with me all my life. I am confident that it is the right diagnosis and I have been given all the tools I need to make the best of my future. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who has concerns about ADHD. Zac is very easy to talk to and will help you feel at ease throughout the whole process!

Young adult Psychotherapy
What is psychotherapy? Psychotherapy is the treatment of psychological, emotional, or behavior disorders through the communications between the client and a therapist. The goal of therapy is to establish a central relationship of trust in which the client or patient can feel free to express personal thoughts and emotions and thus gain insight into his condition and generally share in the healing power of words. (Britannica) Will it work for me? Many people feel a great deal of benefit from psychotherapy, some even after comparatively few meetings. Like any other treatment or life experience, psychotherapy may not be suitable for everyone. Each individual has to make up their own mind about whether therapy is helpful for them. Clinical experience shows that if you are motivated and set yourself realistic goals, psychotherapy is likely to be of benefit. How long will it take? The length of treatment will be determined by what you are offered following assessment. How often are the sessions? Most psychotherapy is once weekly, although sometimes client’s circumstances won’t allow for this, so an alternative arrangement will be made. How long does each session last? Individual psychotherapy sessions normally last fifty minutes. How much does it cost? A one on one session costs E85.00. What benefit should I feel afterwards? Research has shown that psychotherapy is effective in reducing symptoms, improving relationships and self esteem. However, as each person is an individual it is difficult to generalize at the beginning as to which benefits a person may feel. The exploration and the journey is often as important as the goal. Does it usually work? A great deal of research has been done which shows C.B.T to be effective. However, it only works as a catalyst with the person undergoing treatment. This means that in order for therapy to be effective, the "work" is not done to you - but by you and with you.Can I stop if I feel its not working? It is always possible to leav
CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive therapy seeks to help the client overcome difficulties by identifying and changing there thinking errors, behaviour, and emotions. This involves helping patients develop skills to change beliefs, identifying thinking errors and changing behaviours. Treatment is based the collaboration between the client and the therapist. Once those thoughts have been challenged, your feelings are easier to change. I believe that most people can overcome any emotional disability by ‘Working harder’. So be prepared for some homework, as C.B.T does require you the client to record your progress and challenge your behaviour in between sessions. But it’s not just about working harder; I will help you to ‘work clever’. The techniques of C.B.T will allow you to see your world from a new angle and this often brings relief and a new found ability to change behaviour that up until now, you may have felt would never change.
