Peter Clare

Biography:
I am a Trinity College Dublin trained Doctor of Integrative Counselling Psychology who is also a Registered Member of the Psychological Society of Ireland. Initially I studied Drama & Classical Civilisation as my undergraduate Bachelor Degree and then spent a number of years working in the retail and financial services sectors. Upon resuming my academic studies I enrolled in a higher diploma in psychology conversion course and then applied and was accepted into the Professional Doctorate of Counselling Psychology. Whilst undergoing the doctoral training I worked in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire where I gave individual therapy to clients who had an Aquired Brain Injury following physical trauma or illness. On placement in St Vincent's Hospital Psycho-Oncology Department I provided Existential-Humanistic Therapy to people who had been diagnosed with cancer, were undergoing cancer treatment, or were preparing for palliative care. As a qualified counselling psychologist I have worked with third level university students in the Trinity College Student Counselling Service. Offering students individual counselling I used an integrative therapeutic approach with clients who presented with relationship, personality, identity, sexuality, mood, anxiety, stress, developmental, existential, trauma (sexual, emotional, physical), and life transitional issues. This varied experience, coupled with the clinical training on the doctoral programme, has given me a broad therapeutic expertise in psychologial care. In total I have accrued over 1000 hours of clinical practice working with people from all across the age span presenting with varied mental health difficulties.
