Rating from 21 Reviews I can make clear-headed decisions and haven't felt bad about myself sinceGavin, Ireland, 16 Mar 18

I was suffering from a deep depression that lasted more than 10 years. It got really bad that I eventually agreed to get some help because I feared it getting worse. I had little hope that I was going to get better when I started but Brian was very open and understanding. He was always patient with me and was quite an engaging. I felt very comfortable talking about my issues. I would return weekly for more help, looking for a way to beat my depression. Something I thought was impossible but Brian didn't give up and sure enough one week he helped me turn the entire issue on its head and I got an entirely new perspective. I put in my own effort at the request of Brian and worked on facing the issues directly rather than ignoring them. I've become more positive and optimistic and the people around me have noticed. I can make clear-headed decisions and haven't felt bad about myself since. My sincere thanks to Brian for helping me in a dark time. The clinic was quite cosy and homely. I would sit in a quiet, well lit room on a comfortable couch. Water was available at any time. I felt very at ease when I attended my sessions.

Psychoanalysts believe that what drives us through life are multiple relationships with people, things and places. Just as when something loved is lost, in depression it seems like part of ourself has also died. Analysis offers a new pathway back to living. By talking and exploring our dreams, wishes and desires we can find new ways of identifying with the world and a new impetus to live.
Psychotherapist Consultation €80 - €120
In the first session your therapist will introduce themselves and ask you to tell them what’s on your mind. This can be quite daunting, but we are all experienced and are used to listening in a non judgemental way. Everything you say in the session is between you and your therapist and is totally confidential.
Counselling €80 - €120
Psychoanalysis, Counselling, CBT, Life Coaching are all forms of Psychotherapy. Psychoanalysis is a depth psychology addressing mental distress by understanding its underlying, unknown causes. Counselling is the provision of professional guidance in resolving problems. CBT helps you to manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. Life coaching is designed to set and attain goals.

Petra Kucan Psychologist

24 Upper Rathmines Road, Rathmines, Dublin, D6
Rating from 10 Reviews You will get your life back whatever it is you are going throughDeclan, Ireland, 11 Mar 19

Christ – therapy – that dreaded word! My first meeting with Petra was a referral for a not yet diagnosed illness. I had become ill whilst traveling and on my return worsened over the coming months. Doctors, endless tests, misdiagnosis, and non-diagnosis soon ensued. Returning home to my parents at the grand old age of 37 and having my dream job and move abroad fall through all whilst being unable to regain my health – you could say I was at rock bottom, but I prefer to say I’d hit the earth’s core. Hope was a word better used elsewhere than in my company. What could some therapist do to help? Ok, if I was some mathematician genius who worked part-time as a janitor in a college secretly writing sums on a board late at night with a history of abuse, then sure, therapy made sense. But I wasn’t; so hardly needed a Robin Williams of my own. On meeting Petra I felt such resentment and indignation, after all, I was sick; sitting with a box of tissues in my hand was of no use to me at all. I needed doctors and drugs, not someone with a pen and pad and friendly demeanor. What use was talking? None! Over the coming weeks, my compulsive-detention-like visits soon became something very different. Rathmines, that room, Petra – became my safe haven. My visits became a place where I could be understood. A place where I could say anything. A place I was not judged. A place I could be certain, I was safe. As I was diagnosed with a life long illness Petra brought calm to a mind burning with worry. Days and weeks at a time I thought it impossible to overcome but each week I would arrive to talk to the only one who ‘got it’ and felt better every time. I learned so much – a lifestyle of enduring soon gives way to coping which soon gives way to enjoying life to its fullest. I never thought it possible, but both my sickness and Petra have changed my life and for the better. I would implore anyone if they are facing a challenge to their mental or physical health, to see Petra. My advice – you will get your life back whatever it is you are going through but at times us bowling balls do need some foam at either edge of our lane to bring us back on course for that beautiful strike!
