Martine Cooper graduated from the University of East London in 1992 with a first class honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Physiotherapy. She has gained valuable clinical experience working as a musculo-skeletal specialist in a variety of settings: NHS Hospitals including Chelsea and Westminster, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and the private setting ranging from hospitals to medical centres.

Martine has attended numerous post graduate courses to further develop her skills, which include acupuncture, manipulation and Clinical Pilates.

With over 20 years clinical experience she has developed a special interest in the treatment of shoulder conditions and works closely with a number of highly respected shoulder surgeons in London.

Her post graduate study, ergonomic consultancy and lecturing has also led to an interest in Occupational Related Disorders specifically Work Related Upper Limb Disorder (W.R.U.L.D). She also specialises in treating posture related headaches;  back and neck pain; shoulder, knee conditions associated with biomechanical dysfunction.

Anthony ‘Bob’ Kelly graduated from Guys Hospital School of Physiotherapy in 1992. He has since worked in various London Teaching Hospitals; Charing Cross Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

‘Bob’ has developed specialist expertise in treatment and rehabilitation of back and neck disorders integrating Clinical Pilate’s rehabilitation techniques.

He also has a long history of treating patients involved in running, triathlons and your commuter cyclist up to the competitive athlete. ‘Bob’ prides himself on treating you individually and thoroughly getting to know your condition in order to tailor- make your treatment and exercise prescription.

Over the last 21 years ‘Bob’ has developed strong relationships with high profile lower limb (hip, knee, ankle) surgeons. This has enabled him to become an expert in treating sports injuries, pre and post-surgical conditions and also plan long term rehabilitation and training programmes.

John brings to the team at London City Physiotherapy a wealth of experience in managing spinal pain and sports injuries, both in the UK and Australia. John graduated from the University of Queensland, Australia with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 1996. He worked for three years in a large Queensland hospital, predominantly in neurorehabilitation, orthopaedics and musculoskeletal physiotherapy, before heading to the UK in 2000.

John prides himself on providing individualised care to patients to help them achieve their specific goals; after all, no two patients have exactly the same injury, experiences or aims! John is also a fully certified Pilates instructor through the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI), based in London. Combined with his excellent manual therapy skills, John sees Pilates as a user-friendly medium to reduce recurrence of injury. It allows him to apply his Physiotherapy principles to facilitate a controlled return to functional activities and assist in the reduction of symptoms.

Continuing professional development has always been important to John. At the end of 2007 he completed his Masters degree (MSc Pain) at Kings College London, which focused on the study of pain mechanisms. He was also a senior lecturer for the APPI between 2003 and 2008, regularly training and accrediting other Physiotherapists throughout the UK and Southern Ireland in Pilates. John was recently appointed as an Honorary Research Fellow at The Brompton Hospital in London for 2008-9; he is currently involved with the hospital in a research project investigating the effect of musculoskeletal physiotherapy on dysfunctional breathing.

In his spare time, John also fits in marathons (still trying to get those PBs!) and learns Spanish and Japanese. He has hiked many long distance trails throughout the UK, Australia and elsewhere, and has traveled extensively.

With 17 years of Physiotherapy experience Ian has travelled extensively working in NZ, the UK and Australia and he now re-joins the LCP team.

After graduating from Otago University in New Zealand in 2000 Ian went on to work in both hospitals and the private sector. In doing so he has built a deep knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, the rehabilitation of sporting injuries and postural dysfunction.

Ian has a keen interested in lower limb and shoulder injuries particularly caused by overloading and compensatory movement patterns. He uses various techniques and approaches to get positive outcomes for his patients, which involve a combination of hands-on manual therapy, acupuncture and improving movement through motor control.

Ian also uses functional rehabilitation and physical rehabilitation and has a certificate in applied functional science and is a certified Personal Trainer.

When not working for LCP Ian works for Tottenham Hotspur Academy. He also enjoys skateboarding and is an avid runner.

Ian will be at our City Clinic Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Peter embarked on his journey as a Pilates instructor after completing a degree in Sport & Exercise Science at Edinburgh Napier University. He went on to gain a specialist Pilates qualification and built up a loyal clientele as a  successful fitness instructor and Personal Trainer, while also coaching football and basketball teams. In a few years he relocated to Seattle, USA to teach Pilates, Spin, TRX, Kettlebell and high intensity interval classes.

Peter is a keen sportsman having completed the 2012 Belfast marathon as well as a number of triathlons, half marathons and 10k runs. Combining his passion for endurance events and his love of Pilates, Peter delivers both a knowledgeable and personal approach with each of his clients, packed with energy, enthusiasm and expertise.

Diane’s belief is that Pilates practice can benefit everyone – from the dedicated athlete and sports enthusiast to the new mum. She is happy to work with a wide range of clientele to improve performance, posture and body awareness.

Diane has a lot of experience of working in with 1:1, specifically using the reformer and small equipment.

Her personal achievements include racing triathlon internationally for the team GB age group squad on several occasions’ and competing in marathons as well as Ironman races.

A fully certified Pilates instructor and personal trainer, Paul holds a senior position at the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute (APPI), the centre of excellence for Pilates in London, bringing a wealth of experience to London City Pilates

Having recently completed a degree in Physiotherapy, Paul has a fully integrated approach to Pilates specialising in injury treatment and prevention,  alongside alignment and fitness. With over 10 years experience as a Pilates teacher, he works closely with clients to ensure that each class is personally tailored to individual abilities.

Prior to life as a Pilates teacher, Paul spent 14 years performing professionally in the theatre. A trained dancer, he enjoyed a successful career onstage, starring in hit shows including Starlight Express.

Intent on learning from the best, Sarah sought her professional training from some of the most highly respected international teachers in the field, including one of Pilates original teachers Ron Fletcher. She has completed two comprehensive training programmes in Pilates, which include the entire range of Pilates equipment and matwork. She is also a certified personal trainer, weight management consultant, swissball and bosu trainer.

Establishing her own Pilates, Health and Fitness studio ‘The Studio Sai Kung’ in Hong Kong for nine years enabled her to gather a wealth of teaching experience from beginner to advanced students, professional athletes – in group class and private teaching settings.

Since 2007 she has been a Faculty member for Fletcher Pilates Inc, which has given her the opportunity to train new teachers in Pilates and provide continuing education to qualified teachers. In this role she has presented at conferences internationally and taught teacher training courses in Hong Kong, Singapore, USA, UK, Australia, Germany and the Middle East.

From her own experience and the many years of teaching she has come to place great importance on helping clients understand why they are in pain and educating them to use their bodies in ways that alleviate it and prevent re-injury. Sarah also writes and teaches her own mentoring programmes.

Sarah equally loves the fitness aspect of Pilates, helping clients to find their full movement potential and pushing fit students to find the detail in the work that makes the difference between a workout … and a really tough workout.
