What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are artificial screws made of titanium or zirconium oxide that connect the jawbone and a dental restoration like a crown or denture. They are also called ‘endosseous’ implants or fixtures. They are an artificial tooth root. Once implanted, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone like part of the body. Dental surgeons perform bone grafting procedures to hold the implant in place for patients who do not have enough surrounding bone structure, or graft bone to help connect implants to the maxillary sinuses on either side of the nose when placing dental implants in the upper jaw.

How long does it take to fit a Dental Implant?

The time taken for inserting dental implants depends on the bone structure and needs of each individual patient. Some implant procedures take about 15 minutes while others may take up to two hours. Implant procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. Intravenous sedation is used for the comfort of anxious patients.

How long does it take to recover after getting a Dental Implant?

Recovery time after a dental implant procedure may take four to six weeks or up to 12 weeks for some patients. Patients can travel one day after the insertion of a single dental implant. Patients who require multiple dental implants or supporting surgical procedures should wait for around two weeks before travelling. They should meet the dental surgeon to get a certification of being fit to travel before embarking on their journey.

What should I do after getting a Dental Implant?

Patients should rest and avoid exertion after surgery. They should also avoid vigorously brushing their teeth or rinsing their mouth.

What are the alternatives to Dental Implants?

Alternatives to dental implants include fixed bridges and dentures.

Dental Implants offer a permanent solution to missing teeth. For over thirty years, dental Implants have brought naturally beautiful and confident smiles to patients. A dental Implant is a small Titanium Screw or Cylinder which is surgically placed in the upper or lower jawbone. The Implant replaces the root of the missing tooth, providing an anchor for your new tooth/teeth. When the Implants is fully integrated to the bone, a post is attached to it. A Crown can be placed over the post to replace the missing tooth. Many patientschoose dental Implants over other procedures, because the result is a natural appearance which is permanent.

I first visited this clinic in Dec '11 and have visited for treatment (fillings, extractions, cleaning) approx six times since. The treatment is always top class and my lifelong fear of dentists is long gone. My dental and, as a result, my general health has improved greatly since this excellent clinic opened in Loughrea.

Rating from 2 Reviews Very friendly dentist and receptionistJoanne, Tuam, 29 Apr 16

Got a night mouth guard. Good value. Was €20 cheaper than what I payed in Galway city 6 years ago. Very friendly dentist and receptionist. Very informative about what I could get done with my teeth but didn't try and push any treatment on to me. Left me to make up my own mind.

The dentist was excellentGeorge, Ireland, 22 Jun 17

I had not been to the dentist for a couple of years and needed to have my teeth checked. From the moment I entered, I found the staff on reception to be very welcoming and friendly and the dentist was excellent.
