What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges, also called tooth bridges, are placed when patients have one or more teeth missing or have gaps between their teeth. It usually takes two visits to get dental bridges fitted and the procedure takes about two hours.

What different types of dental bridges are there?

Traditional dental bridges consist of two crowns placed on healthy teeth on either side of the missing teeth, or gap, and the bridge then covers the gap supported by the two crowns. Cantilever bridges are placed when there are healthy teeth only on one side of the bridge. Maryland bridges are bonded to the backs of teeth on either side of the bridge and are not connected to crowns. Implant retained bridges are bridges that are placed over implants fixed in the gums. These bridges are placed when several implants are surgically inserted.

Is fitting dental bridges painful?

The dentist will numb the area where the dental bridge is to be placed before performing the procedure. Patients will not feel any pain during the procedure.

When can I travel by air after fitting dental bridges?

Patients should be able to fly two days after fitting their dental bridge. If they feel any pain or sensitivity after the procedure, they should consult their dentist for medications or postpone their journey till the pain or sensitivity has abated.

How long does recovery after fitting dental bridges take?

If patients feel pain or sensitivity after a dental bridge is fitted, they should recover within a week.

How do I care for my teeth after fitting dental bridges?

Patients should follow a normal dental hygiene routine. Patients should brush and floss their teeth and maintain proper hygiene. Patients should avoid eating or drinking anything that is too hot, cold or too hard, for at least a week after the procedure.

What are the alternatives to fitting dental bridges?

Some alternatives to dental bridges are partial dentures or removable dentures.

Worried about going to new dentist away from England, I had a broken tooth and a gum infection. Finding this dentist on the internet and recommended by friends here, I was so impressed with Dr. Sylva's work. I've gone back for cleaning and have arranged to take my daughter for her first appointment as well. Attention to detail, work and bedside manner was all excellent. Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed. Excellent quality new building with plenty of light and wonderful views. Highly recommended.

Dental Bridges
What is a bridge? A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that is necessary when there is at least one tooth missing. The group with the higher strength until recently was the second type of crowns, but after the application of Zirconium Oxide in the first group, the results are very promising as well. Undoubtedly, the all porcelain type of crown has the nicest appearance. Advantages The avoidance of filling the space of a missing tooth can lead to the unpleasant result of losing other healthy teeth. This is because the teeth on either side of the space have the tendency of closing the gap creating orthodontic problems to the patient. Additionally, the tooth that is opposite to the empty space gets longer. Bridges correct bite issues, improve speech and give a nice aesthetic result. Procedure On the first appointment:A mild anaesthetic will be given to the patient to numb the area; the teeth will be prepared and shaped precisely. The dentist will then make an impression, which will serve as the model from which the bridge will be made by the dental laboratory. Before the end of the first appointment a temporary bridge is placed on the prepared teeth for the protection of the patient’s gums and teeth. On the second appointment:The temporary bridge will be removed, then the custom made bridge will be tried and adjusted for any bite discrepancies. Also, the colour will be chosen during this appointment. Finally, the temporary bridge is re-placed. On the last appointment:The temporary bridge is removed and the new bridge is then cemented in place. Caring of the bridge The good caring of the bridge is very important for its long-life.In addition to tooth brushing one can use special interdental brushes

Dental Implants
Implantology is the branch of dentistry which deals with implantation; in other words, the placement of mainly metallic parts (titanium screws) into the jaw bone. The Branemark System was developed in Sweden by a research team led by Prof. P. I. Branemark. He discovered that, when implants made of pure titanium and of a cylindrical design were placed in bone using a controlled surgical technique, the bone would then grow directly onto the surface of the implant. This created a lasting biological bond which is termed osseointegration. From these original observations and many years of development, experiment and clinical trials have led to the proven technical techniques available to patients today. A dental implant is a small titanium fixture that serves as the replacement for the root of a missing natural tooth. The implant is placed in the upper or lower jaw. It will bond with the bone over time and thus serve as an anchor for the replacement tooth. Dental implants can be used to replace a single lost tooth or many missing teeth.
