What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, or nose job, is the term used for the surgical procedures to change or correct the shape of the nose.

What are the different types of Rhinoplasty?

The types of rhinoplasty procedures include; open rhinoplasty, where surgical incisions are made outside the nose, closed rhinoplasty, where incisions are made inside the nose, rhinoplasty to reduce the size of the nose, rhinoplasty to augment the appearance of the nose, ethnic rhinoplasty to alter particular racial traits and post-traumatic rhinoplasty, to treat a deviated septum or nasal fractures.

What are the steps in Rhinoplasty?

For a rhinoplasty procedure, anaesthesia is administered, incisions are made, the shape of the nose is changed, the incisions are closed using stitches and pain medication and post-operative instructions are given.

Is it safe to have Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a safe procedure when performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon. The patient must discuss with their surgeon the outcomes and risks of surgery before undergoing rhinoplasty. Patients will have swelling bruising and bleeding after the procedure. Appropriate medications will be prescribed by the surgeon after the procedure.

What to do after Rhinoplasty.

Patients should avoid touching their nose for a few days and keep their head elevated, even while sleeping. They should use cold compresses to reduce the swelling near their nose and eyes. Patients should avoid wearing spectacles. They should take all prescribed painkillers and medications correctly.

What is the recovery time after Rhinoplasty?

It takes about three to four weeks to completely recover from a rhinoplasty procedure.

Cartilage and bone of the nose can be re-shaped to improve shape and function. This can correct a natural, but large, dorsal hump or tip; or repair an injured nose. A shared understanding between patient and surgeon is essential for successful rhinoplasty surgery. When a large or obvious deformity is present, good improvements are possible in most cases. Smaller, subtle changes are more challenging to achieve and may be less satisfying for a patient. There is no perfect nose or face, but harmony between the nose and face is achieved by balance. If you have functional nasal problems, these may be corrected or worsened by rhinoplasty surgery. Other complications include bruising, swelling, asymmetry, dissatisfaction with the look of the nose, need for re-operation or revision.

They were amazing, very caring and very professionalEmma, New Zealand, 20 12 17

Total professionals. Very caring and highly recommend if wanting such an adjustment. I had upper eye skin removal. My eyelashes were holding the skin up. It was heavy and looked odd. So I booked. I was scared of all the horror stories, so booked here as I read always go to surgeons who also does accident reconstruction etc. Dr. Jamie was everything you would want. I am not sure I would do this again, as I was quite overwhelmed with the whole thing. Yet that is my personality, I have never had wrinkles injections or any other adjustments. I was a virgin to this kind of thing. They did everything to make me feel less nervous, played relaxing classical music, held my hand etc. And yes I would absolutely recommend Dr. Jamie. I would not go anywhere else. Was it good value, I would imagine so, this op was around my eyes, and no money could be too high to make sure I have used a reputable clinic. I am not rich, and it was within my means. They were amazing, very caring and very professional. And it was quick too. Everything was as you would hope. Clean professional and reputable. And I have come out with no problems.

Christopher Thomson FRACS - Dr Chris Thomson

Christopher Thomson FRACS

Specialists at NINE, Level 2. 9 Caledonian Road, Christchurch, 8014
In New Zealand the FRACS after the surgeon's name gives you the assurance that he or she is a fully qualified surgeon trained to a uniformly high standard. Word of mouth and results of surgery in friends and colleagues is often the most helpful way of choosing your surgeon when you consider undergoing a facial plastic surgical procedure. t doesn't matter too much which specialty the surgeon comes from. More importantly you must satisfy yourself that your surgeon has had appropriate experience and training in the facial plastic surgery procedures that he or she offers. At our clinic you will have an initial consultation to determine what procedure best suits your needs. Our highly skilled team of medical and nursing staff will bring you through the procedure and the recovery stage. Resulting in the new improved you.
