What is Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer is a surgical procedure that transplants fat taken from the patient’s body to areas of the face and body in order to restore the volume lost because of the process of aging. The procedure is also called fat grafting or fat injection. Typically fat is transferred to the breasts, the buttocks, hands and facial features including the lips, chin and cheeks. Fat transfers are also performed to treat acne scarring.

How is Fat Transfer done?

Fat is removed from one area of the body by the surgeon using liposuction. The fat is purified and turned into liquid form. It is then injected into another part of the body to give more volume. The time taken for the procedure depends on the part of the body from which the fat is harvested, the processing of the fat and the part of the body or face where the fat is transferred to. A fat transfer procedure to the buttocks, for example, may take five to eight hours.

Is Fat Transfer painful?

Fat transfer procedures are performed under general anaesthesia, local anaesthesia or intravenous sedation, depending on the needs of each individual patient. Patients will not feel pain during the procedure.

Recovery from fat transfer depends on the part of the body to which fat is transferred. The recovery time for patients choosing a fat transfer procedure to their buttocks may be about four to six weeks.

What post-operative care should I take after Fat Transfer?

Patients should rest for a few days after a fat transfer procedure. They should take all prescribed medications correctly and avoid smoking or drinking alcohol. Patients should avoid strenuous activities and lifting heavy objects for at least a month after the procedure. They should, however start walking as soon as possible to decrease swelling. They should also wear the prescribed compression garments correctly.

My nose was "perfect" I said I looked like Brad Pitt (well nearly😃😃) The procedure was painless laser treatment. Tumescent liposuction is a liposuction technique which has been specially developed by cosmetic dermatologists. Tumescent liposuction is performed entirely under local anaesthetic and is recognised as the safest form of liposuction. The objective is to improve body contours by removing unwanted fat in a very careful manner. The small cannulas used also give the best results. What is Tumescent Liposuction? The word tumescent means swollen and firm. Tumescent liposuction relies on large volumes of saline solution, local anaesthetic, and adrenaline being infiltrated into the fatty areas. These areas then become swollen and firm. This state enables the surgeon to insert a small instrument called a cannula through tiny incisions in order to remove unwanted fatty deposits so as to create an attractive body contour. What areas can be treated by liposuction? Anybody can have tumescent liposuction but the best candidates are relatively fit individuals who exercise regulary and are of normal body weight or slightly over weight and who have body contours which are out of proportion. Patients who are significantly overweight can still be good candidates for liposuction to some body areas. It is important to have realistic expectations and positive attitude. Age is not significant factor. Patients should be in good general health, but tumescent liposuction is a very safe technique and can be under taken despite some medical conditions

Winston and his staff are amazing. So friendly and kind. They made me feel so at ease. I cannot recommend Winston enough. I had a breast reduction and he has made me the perfect size for my body. His price is way cheaper than anyone else, but his level of care was 10/10. All the nurses were absolutely lovely, and the anaesthetist was amazing. He made me feel so calm. It was my first surgery ever so I was pretty nervous. I couldn't have wished for a better experience.
