What is Microdermabrasion?Throughout your life, your skin is constantly working to replace your old dry skin cells with fresh new ones. As we age, the renewal process slows down and the top layer of your skin (which is made up entirely of dead, dull skin cells) thickens, gradually losing its ability to reflect light.Microdermabrasion is a skincare procedure formulated to exfoliate the top surface layers of the skin removing the dead skin cells to encouraging the skin's natural renewal process. It is a superficial treatment which can be useful to treat congested, lifeless skin, blackheads and fine wrinkles and help restore your skins youthful glow. A microdermabrasion treatment takes 45 minutes to one hour. In that time we cleanse, scrub and perform an AHA peel prior to the microdermabrasion treatment and then apply a soothing mask and moisturiser. Microdermabrasion is often used in conjunction with other treatments. The dead abraded skin is then sucked away via a vacuum extractor. The diamond head is passed over the treatment area several times. Older machines use microdermabrasion crystals to achieve the same result. Results are instantly visible with no downtime. You may experience a slight tingling sensation and increased redness, however within 2 – 4 hours the redness will subside and within 24 – 48 hours the skin texture will be at it's optimum.
