There was absolutely no pain, and it felt like more of a relaxing massage

5 50 Sciatica Treatment, Acupuncture Treatment

I had four sessions of acupuncture at this clinic. There was absolutely no pain, and it felt like more of a relaxing massage. Unfortunately, the treatment did not work. I discussed this with the therapist. It was for sciatica and nothing will actually cure this.

My first impressions of the clinic were excellent. Each session lasted 45 minutes to an hour. Despite the fact that the treatment didn’t work, the therapist was excellent. I was rather nervous going in, but he really calmed me down. I actually started looking forward to the sessions. He’s marvellous. I’ve left reviews on Facebook and recommend several others.

I have sciatica and no painkillers worked for me. I was in so much pain. I had my first treatment on Monday 19_2_18. Wow, I felt like a new person after the treatment my mood lifted and I got my appetite back. I had my second treatment today 23_2_2018 and I feel brilliant. I am going to have a few more done and I look forward to them.

General Practice

Stress Management

At New Leaf Acupuncture, Dublin, we recognise that stress can manifest itself in the body in many ways – sleep disorders, gastrointestinal issues, immune system weakness, pains in the body, etc. We look for and treat the root of their cause.

Acupuncture can help to reverse the above changes. It increases serotonin production while also releasing the body’s natural pain- killers, endorphins and enkephalins and decreases cortisol secretion.

Patients report feeling more relaxed and focused after an acupuncture session. As the treatments continue, patients often notice that “things that used to really bother me no longer do.”

Chronic Pain Syndrome

At New Leaf Acupuncture, Dublin, the aim of our treatment is to stimulate the nervous system and cause the release of neurochemical messenger molecules. The resulting biochemical changes influence the body’s homeostatic mechanisms, thus promoting physical and emotional well-being. Stimulation of certain acupuncture points has been shown to affect areas of the brain that are known to reduce sensitivity to pain and stress, as well as promoting relaxation and deactivating the ‘analytical’ brain, which is responsible for anxiety.

Acupuncture also helps relieve chronic pain by stimulating nerves located in muscles and other tissues, which leads to release of endorphins and other neurohumoral factors (e.g. neuropeptide Y, serotonin), and changes the processing of pain in the brain and spinal cord

Sciatica Treatment

Back pain and sciatica can affect anyone at any age and most people will suffer from one condition at some point in their lives. Together, they are our country’s leading cause of disability and one of the main reasons for work-related sickness absence.

Most lower back pain and sciatica is caused not by serious damage or disease, but by sprains, muscle strains, minor injuries, or a pinched or irritated nerve. It can also occur during pregnancy, or because of stress, viral infection or a kidney infection.

Research has shown that acupuncture is very effective for back pain and it appears to be particularly useful as an adjunct to conventional care, for patients with more severe symptoms and for those wishing to avoid pain-killers.

At New Leaf Acupuncture, Dublin, we can help back pain and sciatica by:

  • providing pain relief – by stimulating nerves located in muscles and other tissues, acupuncture leads to release of endorphins and other neurohumoral factors and changes the processing of pain in the brain and spinal cord (Pomeranz 1987; Zhao 2008).
  • reducing inflammation – by promoting release of vascular and immunomodulatory factors (Kim 2008, Kavoussi 2007;Zijlstra 2003).
  • improving muscle stiffness and joint mobility – by increasing local microcirculation (Komori 2009), which aids dispersal of swelling and bruising.
  • reducing the use of medication for back complaints (Thomas 2006).
  • providing a more cost-effective treatment over a longer period of time (Radcliffe 2006;Witt 2006).
  • improving the outcome when added to conventional treatments such as rehabilitation exercises (Ammendolia 2008; Yuan 2008).
