STT - Soft Tissue Therapy
This is a technique for stretching soft tissues, primarily muscles, fascia and tendons.  Many clients complain of having tight musscles. Sometimes stretching  gives temporary relief from the feelings of tightness. One of the reasons bacis stretching gives only temporary relief is because muscles are not uniformly tight.  There may be localised areas of tension or adhesions restricting a few fibres only. When we perform active stretches, it may not necessarily be the tight part that lengthens, but the part that is more pliable. Soft tissue release helps localize a stretch to those fibres in the muscles that most need lengthening. This technique improves both range of movement and quality of movement making it more fluid and less jerky, a real booost to any athlete.  This tachnique is used in a physical therapy treatment or in a pre event sport massage.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points, also known as trigger sites or muscle knots, are described as hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibres. The trigger point model states that unexplained pain frequently radiates from these points of local tenderness to broader areas, sometimes distant from the trigger point itself. Trigger point release can give quick relief from pain in many cases.
Physical Therapy €40 - €60
The body is treated as a whole and the aim of the treatment is to bring it back to balance.  Posture and muscle tone is observed and your health history is taken into consideration before  a physical therapy treatment is given.  Deep masage, trigger point release, soft tissue release, myofascial release are the techniques that are used depending on what the patient needs. Homecare advice is given, such as stretches and strengthening exercises.

Don Kelly Physical Therapy - General Practice in Ireland

Don Kelly Physical Therapy

Charleville Park Leisure Centre, Limerick Road, Charleville, Co. Cork

Used a mixture of his own methods of physical therapy and acupunctureDavid, Ireland, 08 03 16

I have suffered on and off with lower back pain and back spasms for the past 10 years. Sought to remedy this through various physiotherapy, acupuncture and chiropractic treatments over many years but ultimately felt that I failed to find a solution to the issues I was experiencing - mainly exacerbated when running, playing hurling or exercising (weight lifting etc.) I was referred to Don through a mentor of my hurling club. Don identified a few contributing factors to my back pain after 1 or 2 sessions. He treated each factor using a mixture of his own methods of physical therapy and acupuncture and also recommended orthotics for me, which I now wear while hurling. His treatments in conjunction with the orthotics and a maintenance stretching programme that he has suggested for me have meant that I have recently been able to play entire competitive games and not feel the same numbing tightness in my lower back during or after games. So far so good. I am pleased with this result especially after only a few treatments, as this was a recurring issue for me for some time. If you are suffering from symptoms similar to my description above I'd recommend contacting Don to see if you can see similar results. Very positive and professional environment and practitioner. I felt at ease asking questions and outlining the issues I was having with my lower back pain. It was a non-judgemental consultation and Don provided a lot of helpful guidance and key takeaways on top of his treatments.
