A sprained ankle occurs following a suddensideways or twisting movement of the foot. The correct treatment of a spraincan help you quickly recover and prevent future problems. When this type of ankle sprain happens, the outer, or lateral,ligaments are stretched too far. There are three ligaments that join to theouter side of the ankle. About 90% of ankle sprains are inversion injuries.Pain is always on the outside of the ankle, and there is usually no pain on theinside of the ankle joint. Eversion Ankle Sprains The other type of sprained ankle is called an eversion injury, where the footis twisted outwards. When this occurs, the inner ligament, called the deltoidligament, is stretched too far. Patients will have pain on the inner side ofthe ankle. The common symptoms connected with ankle sprain are: *) Position1- this normally happens due to stretching of ligament. The symptoms show lesspain and swelling. *) Position2- P1 happens when stretching of ligament, but P2 occurs when the ligament getpartial tears. This is a bit serious injury considered with the P1. *) Position3- Here the ligament get complete tear. P3 results unbearable pain andswelling. Patients often notice bruising over the area of injury.
