What is a root canal procedure?

Root canal procedures, or endodontics, is a treatment for the inner pulp of the tooth. They are performed to save teeth from extraction. The dentist or endodontist, a root canal specialist, cleans out the decayed or damaged pulp without breaking the exterior of the tooth root. The cleaned root canal is filled with a bio-compatible rubber-like material called gutta-percha. They are also performed for patients with damaged teeth caused by accidents or fractures. The procedure takes one to two hours to complete.

What are the types of root canal procedures?

Primary root canal treatments are performed using stainless steel files. Stainless steel files could remove only a small amount of infection and could easily break. The more advanced and flexible nickel titanium files do not break easily and are able to clean the entire infected area easily. Rotary instruments used to clean the root canal are quicker than manual instruments. Other advanced root canal procedures make use of ultrasound or laser to effectively clean the root canal.

Is a root canal procedure painful?

Root canal procedures are performed under local anaesthetic. Patients will not feel pain during the procedure.

What is the recovery time after having a root canal procedures?

Patients take about three days to recover after a root canal procedure. Some patients require a week to recover from a root canal procedure.

When can I travel by air after a root canal procedure?

It is safe to travel by air one day after a root canal procedure. Patients should check with their dentist before embarking on their journey. If they feel pain or discomfort, they should postpone their journey until it abates.

What care is required after a root canal procedure?

Patients should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should not eat until the anaesthetic wears off. They should not eat or drink very hot or very cold food for at least a week. They should avoid eating hard food or sticky food. If swelling occurs they should sleep with their head raised for a few days to bring it down.

What are the alternatives to root canal procedures?

Alternatives to root canal procedures include extractions and pulp capping procedures.

I will recommend this surgeryAbiola, UK, 19 10 23

The dentist took no time to review me and confirmed what my other dentist diagnosed. He even slashed the amount of the consultation fee in half. That was very good of him, as he doesn't have to. A big thanks to Dr Bilal and also the secretaries, very welcoming. I will recommend this surgery

I've always had a problem with visiting the dentist. However, Dr Ahmed made me forget about all that with the way he handled my issues. He literally transformed my teeth beautifully! Dental Implants from £2225
History: This is the modern method of permanently replacing missing teeth. It all started in 1952, when Professor Branemark of Lund, Sweden  found that titanium screws used in the bones of rabbits could not be removed after they healed. He then realised that the bone “integrated” titanium, and of course, after years of previous trails by surgeons all over the world with many different types of materials, the use of titanium became obvious for dental Implants. He developed the Branemark Institute of Implantology and the company producing the Implants is the  NobelBiocare. Dental Implants have now been in use for over 30 years. At Harrow.on.the.hill dental, we use the NobelBiocare, which is said to be the most researched and robust system in the market. For more information, please see  . A dental implant is made of pure titanium or titanium alloy, and has almost the same the shape and form of a root. It is inserted into the bone where the tooth (or teeth) are missing .It is a bio-compatible to the bone and integrates fully within the bone , creating an extremely strong bond. This is called osseointegration. If you are missing one tooth, or many teeth, we can replace your teeth easily. The whole procedure takes only a few minutes for a single tooth and up to an hour for multiple implants .We use new procedures and systems that may not require any incisions of the gums. If the shape of your face is changing due to tooth loss, or you are wearing a removable denture and wish you never did, then implants may be for you.   Implants can be an alternative to dentures or can greatly increase the stability of these dentures.

extremely professional whilst being friendly at the same timeDebbie, UK, 16 01 24

I visited Confident Smile to discuss an implant and Alex who is extremely knowledgable recommended I considered a brace for upper and lower teeth including an extraction to straighten the lower teeth for cosmetic and preventative measures as well. I have now had this treatment and an implant in my lower jaw. I am a very nervous patient but at all times I was made to feel calm, relaxed and throughout my dental journey I was put at ease and each procedure was explained in detail prior to the work being carried out. Alex and his team were extremely professional whilst being friendly at the same time. I have now moved to this dentist permanently for check ups and hygiene visits and highly recommend them. The receptionists are also friendly and very helpful.

Her attention to detail and genuine follow-ups when needed make all the differenceShivu, UK, 09 04 25

I had a fantastic experience at Oaks Dental Ruislip. The team here, from the dentists to the hygienists, are incredibly friendly, professional, and dedicated to making every visit a comfortable one. A special mention to Dr. Ramona—she is an amazing dentist who truly cares for her patients. Her attention to detail and genuine follow-ups when needed make all the difference. The practice manager and reception staff are equally outstanding. They go above and beyond to accommodate patients efficiently and always listen to their concerns in a professional and empathetic manner. The recent refurbishments are stunning—the practice feels fresh, modern, and welcoming. I also really appreciated the soothing music in the waiting area; it created a calm and relaxing atmosphere that made a big difference for me. I can't recommend Oaks Dental Ruislip enough. They truly go above and beyond to provide excellent care and ensure their patients feel at ease.
