What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is performed for dental procedures for anxious patients by administering medications to help them relax. Many patients avoid getting the required dental help because of their fear of the dentist. Sedation dentistry is performed to ensure that nervous patients enjoy healthy mouths and teeth.

What are the types of dental sedation?

The different types of dental sedation are; inhalation sedation, for patients requiring mild sedation also called anxiolysis; oral sedation, by asking patients to swallow a pill; TENS, using electrical impulses to numb the area; topical anaesthesia, using a swab to numb the area; or intra-venous sedation, for patients requiring moderate sedation and general anaesthesia for patients requiring deep sedation. General anaesthesia is used for patients only in a hospital and not in a dentist chair.

Is Sedation Dentistry painful?

Oral sedation, inhalation sedation, TENS and topical sedation are not painful. Intra-venous sedation and general anaesthesia need to be injected and patients may feel pain when the sedative is injected.

When can I travel by air after Sedation Dentistry?

Patients should travel by air two days after sedation dentistry. They should take the advice of their dentist before embarking on their journey.

How long does recovery after Sedation Dentistry take?

Recovery from dental sedation takes between 40 to 90 minutes. Recovery depends on the type of sedation administered.

What after care is required after Sedation Dentistry?

Patients should rest for at least three hours after sedation dentistry. They should not eat for at least four hours, until the anaesthesia wears off. They should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should resume work at least one day after sedation dentistry. They should not smoke or drink alcohol for at least two days after sedation dentistry. They should follow all dietary prescriptions given by their dentist correctly.

I think they gave me a good deal for the quality work that was doneAnonymous, Spain, 23 04 18

I had my fillings done at Bordon Clinic because of their great online reviews. We discussed the price at the consultation, and I think they gave me a good deal for the quality work that was done. The place left a good impression on me. The customer service was brilliant and everyone could communicate well in English. I arranged my follow-up visit directly with the clinic. Everything worked out fine.

I would go to this clinicPaul, US, 07 05 16

I'm a tourist on an extended, two-month, visit to Madrid. Midway through my trip, I swallowed a crown. I found Dr. Milo via a google search for English-speaking dentists...I know some Spanish, but not enough to navigate through dental treatment options. I sent an email, received an immediate response, and got an appointment that day. He confirmed that I had no decay, went through my treatment options, and suggested that the easiest would be to coat the dentine with a protective covering, and enjoy the rest of my vacation without the hassle of lab work and another visit. I was in and out in 30 minutes for less than the cost of a tapas and drinks. The clinic is conveniently located on a metro station. It was clean and modern. The staff was very friendly. And Dr. Milo was great...he spoke perfect english (having trained in the United States), didn't try to sell me services I didn't need, and actually had some great advice that made me wonder about the competency of my home dentist. If I lived in Madrid, I would go to this clinic.

Sedative medication helps relax patients by slowing the action of the central nervous system. People remain aware of their surroundings, but are less responsive to external stimuli like the sound of the drill or the smell of materials. This also reduces their sense of pain.   Current medications are often more powerful and less likely to carry unpleasant side effects. Our medical doctors weigh a number of factors carefully to assess which drug will be the safest choice in a unique situation for a particular individual.
General anesthesia for dental treatments
General Anaesthesia is rarely used for dental treatment One of the reasons for this is that IV Sedation works so well for nearly everyone, and is extremely safe. Each general anaesthetic carries a certain amount of risk. LB CLINICAS performs that general anaesthesia for dental treatment in adults is used as a last resort or disabled patients, where there is no other method of pain and anxiety management appropriate for the person in question. This treatment is done in our hospital with all the necessary safety equipment and managed by medical doctors specialists in general anesthesia
