What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are artificial screws made of titanium or zirconium oxide that connect the jawbone and a dental restoration like a crown or denture. They are also called ‘endosseous’ implants or fixtures. They are an artificial tooth root. Once implanted, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone like part of the body. Dental surgeons perform bone grafting procedures to hold the implant in place for patients who do not have enough surrounding bone structure, or graft bone to help connect implants to the maxillary sinuses on either side of the nose when placing dental implants in the upper jaw.

How long does it take to fit a Dental Implant?

The time taken for inserting dental implants depends on the bone structure and needs of each individual patient. Some implant procedures take about 15 minutes while others may take up to two hours. Implant procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. Intravenous sedation is used for the comfort of anxious patients.

How long does it take to recover after getting a Dental Implant?

Recovery time after a dental implant procedure may take four to six weeks or up to 12 weeks for some patients. Patients can travel one day after the insertion of a single dental implant. Patients who require multiple dental implants or supporting surgical procedures should wait for around two weeks before travelling. They should meet the dental surgeon to get a certification of being fit to travel before embarking on their journey.

What should I do after getting a Dental Implant?

Patients should rest and avoid exertion after surgery. They should also avoid vigorously brushing their teeth or rinsing their mouth.

What are the alternatives to Dental Implants?

Alternatives to dental implants include fixed bridges and dentures.

I will definitely be making this my primary dental health provider.Tristan, Halifax, NS, 07 12 14

I was in the door for 16:30 for my initial fitting and out by 17:00. For the second part of my appointment I was there early again for a 14:30 appointment and was out the door before I was even scheduled to go in. The dental assistant there was very professional and thorough with the fitting and assessing any concerns I had. I will definitely be making this my primary dental health provider.

I am very happy with my new partial dentures, they fit perfectly.Christina, ottawa, 04 02 17

I am very happy with my new partial dentures, they fit perfectly on the first try! I love my new teeth and my smile is perfect. Denturist has a great bedside manner and he patiently listened to all of my concerns. I will be back if I ever need a repair, I even brought my mom to do her full dentures. I would recommend their services to anyone! Great experience, location was tricky to find at first, they have free parking so I didn't have to worry about finding parking.

I just can't say enough good things about it nowJack, Canada, 02 10 17

I had my teeth straightened with Invisalign and had an implant and crown. Really happy with the result! I went Clearbrook Dental 8 years ago and had a bad experience with the male dentist that was there. I decided to try it again last year, based on my friend's recommendation and I just can't say enough good things about it now. Apparently the female dentist is the new owner, and she and her staff are amazing!

Dental Implants
Dental Crowns
Crowns are a type of dental restoration which, when cemented into place, fully covers that portion of a tooth which lies at and above the gum line. In comparison, composite fillings/inlays/onlays are dental restorations that are used to fill in or cover over just a portion of a tooth. Since dental crowns encase the entire visible aspect of a tooth, a dental crown in effect becomes the tooths new outer surface.Crowns are used to rebuild broken or decayed teeth, to strengthen teeth, and as a means by which to enhance the cosmetic appearance of teeth. Crowns can be made out of porcelain/ceramic, gold alloy, or a combination of both. Dental crowns are often referred to as "dental caps".
Dental Bridges
If you are missing teeth and having trouble speaking or chewing, or are noticing strain when biting, bridges may be the ideal procedure to help make your mouth healthy and beautiful again. Bridges literally “bridge” gaps between teeth by filling them with strong, natural-looking artificial teeth. Bridges are semi-permanent – they can only be removed by a dentist – and are comfortable and proven to strengthen teeth.
