What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are artificial screws made of titanium or zirconium oxide that connect the jawbone and a dental restoration like a crown or denture. They are also called ‘endosseous’ implants or fixtures. They are an artificial tooth root. Once implanted, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone like part of the body. Dental surgeons perform bone grafting procedures to hold the implant in place for patients who do not have enough surrounding bone structure, or graft bone to help connect implants to the maxillary sinuses on either side of the nose when placing dental implants in the upper jaw.

How long does it take to fit a Dental Implant?

The time taken for inserting dental implants depends on the bone structure and needs of each individual patient. Some implant procedures take about 15 minutes while others may take up to two hours. Implant procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. Intravenous sedation is used for the comfort of anxious patients.

How long does it take to recover after getting a Dental Implant?

Recovery time after a dental implant procedure may take four to six weeks or up to 12 weeks for some patients. Patients can travel one day after the insertion of a single dental implant. Patients who require multiple dental implants or supporting surgical procedures should wait for around two weeks before travelling. They should meet the dental surgeon to get a certification of being fit to travel before embarking on their journey.

What should I do after getting a Dental Implant?

Patients should rest and avoid exertion after surgery. They should also avoid vigorously brushing their teeth or rinsing their mouth.

What are the alternatives to Dental Implants?

Alternatives to dental implants include fixed bridges and dentures.

Smiles & Beyond Denture Clinic

(855) 410-2401 ext: 13845 Namao 15753 97 Street, Edmonton, t5x0c7
Rating from 6 Reviews I got high quality work done at a much lower priceMike, Canada, 28 Jul 17

Implant secured dentures top. Outstanding work. I had lost all my top teeth and got dentures. The denture made me gag and drove me nuts. I found Smiles and Beyond and went to see Gus. Gus fixed my gag problem which was a problem no other denture person or dentist could fix. I still wanted something better, so asked Gus about implants. Gus explained to me every detail about implants and told me about his partnership with an implant surgeon at Southwest Smiles Dentist Edmonton. The cost for all implants and teeth was considerably lower than the quotes I got from other sources. I said yes and Gus setup the appointments for me at Southwest Smiles. Southwest Smiles did an excellent job installing my implants. The next step was to see Gus at Smiles and Beyond for the teeth. After a 3 month wait for implants to fuse with the bone, Gus started on my implant denture teeth. I was very picky with how I wanted my teeth and not once did Gus complain. Gus does not do work strictly by the book as each person is different and he worked very hard to get my teeth right. Gus did an outstanding job on the final teeth which was so good that I gave him a hug. The teeth Gus made for me also looked great too. The skill Gus has is incredible. The best part is I got high quality work done at a much lower price than other places.

FRating from 1 Review I will definitely be making this my primary dental health provider.Tristan, Halifax, NS, 07 Dec 14

I was in the door for 16:30 for my initial fitting and out by 17:00. For the second part of my appointment I was there early again for a 14:30 appointment and was out the door before I was even scheduled to go in. The dental assistant there was very professional and thorough with the fitting and assessing any concerns I had. I will definitely be making this my primary dental health provider.

Rating from 2 Reviews I am pleased nowHanane, Canada, 31 Oct 14

I went to Dr Holt for consultation, as second opinion. He gave me the choice of either removing the infected molar or root canal which may not be successful with the bone loss. I am pleased now. I removed the molar and I got rid of the infection. I removed the molar with my regular dentist.

Denticare Clinic

Rating from 4 Reviews No complications and quick healing.Thomas, Rowe, 23 Jan 16

Denticare Clinic has been a most appreciated experience all around. The staff worked with me in scheduling and was most informative. Still in the process of two implants and crowns, the tooth extractions were most professionally and efficiently done with no complications and quick healing. I chose this clinic because of their competitive price and the source of the dentist's degree from McGill, which I consider as an excellent school. Plus, on talking with the staff and my circumstances of a five-hour drive, they were all willing to accommodate my needs.

FRating from 1 Review I highly recommend The Lakes clinic!Tami, Canada, 08 Dec 16

I had a mole on my neck that began to exhibit changes (in size and appearance). I do not presently have a family physician so felt referral to a dermatologist would be problematic. I then sought out a private clinic to provide timely removal of this mole and follow-up with pathology to assess possible malignancy... From booking through to the actual procedure, Dr. Chamberlain and his staff were awesome. I could not have asked for a more timely, professional experience and I highly recommend the Lakes clinic!
