Mr Spyrou gained his basic medical qualification in Greece before relocating to the UK in 1992. After four years of basic training in general and plastic surgery he qualified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 1996. Following that he undertook a pioneering research project in the management of scars at the University of Bradford. He submitted his thesis in 1998 and was awarded the higher degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) for his period of research. His higher specialist training as a Specialist Registrar in Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery was carried out in Bradford, Leeds, Hull and Wakefield. He also spent periods in other specialist centres in London and Belgium.

Educated in Ireland, Qualified from Medical School at University College Dublin. Came to Yorkshire 11 years ago and attained my Plastic Surgery fellowship in 2001. Commenced working as a consultant in Pinderfields Hospital in 2001. Following my graduation from Manchester University in 1999, I spent 5 years gaining experience in a wide variety of surgical specialties in the greater Manchester region. In 2005 I made the move across the pennines and spent the next 6 years as a Specialist Registrar in Orthopaedics honing my skills as a surgeon in many of the local hospital in Yorkshire including 1 year at Pinderfields.I undertook a specialist knee surgery fellowship in Sheffield in 2010 working alongside 2 of the UK’s most renowned knee surgeons. There I spent one year learning in depth surgical techniques for all aspects of knee surgery. I was then appointed as consultant with a special interest in knee surgery in October 2010. I am now focused on developing a gold standard knee service for the Mid Yorkshire area.

I graduated in Medicine in 1990 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and then undertook my Basic Surgical Training in Centres in the UK and Australia, including a year spent teaching Anatomy at the Medical School in Leeds. I was then appointed as a Specialist Registrar on the 6 year Yorkshire Regional Training Programme in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery which I completed in 2001 before undertaking a year of Fellowship training in Reconstructive Knee Surgery in the UK and in Melbourne, Australia.I was appointed as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with a special interest in Knee Surgery in 2003, including private practice at Methley Park Hospital since 2007. I have since developed a practice specialising in Sports Injuries and treatment of knee instability and arthritis. This includes arthroscopic knee surgery, reconstruction of the cruciate and collateral ligaments, osteotomies around the knee, partial and total knee replacement, revision knee replacement and treatment of patellofemoral instability and pain.As a consultant at the MidYorkshire Hospitals NHS trust, I also participate in the trauma on call rota, carrying out a wide range of trauma procedures and also specialising in reconstruction of traumatic injuries around the knee joint including distal femoral and tibial plateau fractures.I have published a wide range of articles in the field of trauma and orthopaedics, more recently concentrating on fractures and soft tissue injuries around the knee.
