Back Pain Treatment

We use Activator treatment in our clinics. It makes up one part of the different treatment methods that we can chose between when we decide your treatment plan.

Initial Consultation This takes about 45 minutes. At your first visit, the chiropractor will take a full and detailed medical history and carry out a thorough physical, orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic examination. Other investigations might also be necessary, such as X-rays or MRI scans. The chiropractor will do what is possible to ease symptoms, but treatment cannot be guaranteed at the first visit. This will depend on the nature of the problem, the acuteness of symptoms on the day and whether x-rays have been taken. If it is appropriate, the chiropractor will treat you.

Chiropractors are considered to be non-surgical back pain specilists. Back pain makes up 2/3 of our patients.

Treatment

The activator is a very effective low force adjustment that targets a specific area. This is often beneficial for patients with osteoporosis, children and those who find high velocity low amplitude adjustments too uncomfortable.

Your initial consultation will involve your chiropractor taking a detailed history and conducting a thorough orthopaedic and neurological assessment. Once a diagnosis has been reached your treatment plan will be explained to you. Treatment will often be given on the first visit if deemed appropriate.

Most people will suffer with back pain at some point in their life. Getting it treated straight away will ensure a quick recovery that allows you to get straight back into the action of work, family and fun.

Initial Consultation During your first visit the chiropractor will perform a full case history and routine series of Postural, Orthopaedic, Neurological and Chiropractic examinations before treatment is commenced. Motion palpation will assess the function of each spinal joint in order to determine the levels of restriction. There will be a follow-up appointment when the chiropractor will discuss with you, your examination results and the care plan recommendation most suitable for your condition. Additional supportive measures which will assist in your recovery (ergonomics, postural advice, nutrition and exercises) will also be advised. The paperwork provides us with general information about yourself and the medical questionnaire section will help us establish your past medical history and give us details about your current condition. Consultation During the consultation you will be asked more detailed questions about your condition, relevant past medical conditions, your lifestyle (what you do for a living and how much exercise you take etc). This is important information which allows us to determine what stresses and strains in your life can be playing a role in causing your condition. Certain underlying medical conditions like previous surgery, arthritis, are relevant either as contributing factors to your complaint or in determining what treatment techniques are suitable for you. Examination We will then move on to the examination. This will focus on checking your posture, assessing your spinal joint (or other joint) movements and testing your nerve function. Muscle strength tests are used to identify areas of weakness. Blood pressure readings are taken to get an overall health picture. Report of Findings The nature and cause of your problem will be explained in detail (report of findings) as well as what treatment you will need (including how many treatments you are likely to need). You will also be given a chance to ask any questions you may have. Your specific condition may require us to take x-rays to get a full evaluation of a patient.
