Initial Consultation This takes about 45 minutes. At your first visit, the chiropractor will take a full and detailed medical history and carry out a thorough physical, orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic examination. Other investigations might also be necessary, such as X-rays or MRI scans. The chiropractor will do what is possible to ease symptoms, but treatment cannot be guaranteed at the first visit. This will depend on the nature of the problem, the acuteness of symptoms on the day and whether x-rays have been taken. If it is appropriate, the chiropractor will treat you.

Consultation During the consultation you will be asked more detailed questions about your condition, relevant past medical conditions, your lifestyle (what you do for a living and how much exercise you take etc). This is important information which allows us to determine what stresses and strains in your life can be playing a role in causing your condition. Certain underlying medical conditions like previous surgery, arthritis, are relevant either as contributing factors to your complaint or in determining what treatment techniques are suitable for you. Examination We will then move on to the examination. This will focus on checking your posture, assessing your spinal joint (or other joint) movements and testing your nerve function. Muscle strength tests are used to identify areas of weakness. Blood pressure readings are taken to get an overall health picture. Report of Findings The nature and cause of your problem will be explained in detail (report of findings) as well as what treatment you will need (including how many treatments you are likely to need). You will also be given a chance to ask any questions you may have. Your specific condition may require us to take x-rays to get a full evaluation of a patient.
