What is Acne?

Acne is the appearance of blemishes on the skin of patients caused by oily secretions of the skin’s sebaceous glands. The oil secreted blocks the pores of the skin causing acne.

What different types of Acne Treatments are there?

Acne is treated by using topical medications, prescription tablets, laser assisted acne treatments and treatments using broadband light.

Are Acne Treatments painful?

Laser assisted acne treatments and broadband light assisted acne treatments are performed after applying numbing creams or administering local anaesthesia. Patients should not feel pain during the procedure.

When can I travel by air after Acne Treatments?

Patients can travel by air immediately after laser or broadband light assisted acne treatments. If they feel any discomfort they can fly after they feel better.

How long does recovery take after having Acne Treatments?

Recovery after laser or broadband light assisted acne treatments takes from three days to a week.

What after care is required after Acne Treatments?

Patients should take any prescribed medications correctly. They should use cold packs to bring down any swelling after laser or broadband light assisted acne treatments, for at least two days. They should avoid touching or scratching the treated area. They should avoid direct sunlight and use a strong sunblock after laser and broadband light assisted acne treatments for at least a month.  Patients should drink plenty of water to help their skin recover.

Baggot Street Medical - Dermatology Clinic in IrelandFeatured

Baggot Street Medical

Rating from 30 Reviews My skin has been almost perfect ever sinceNiamh, Ireland, 28 09 18

I went to Baggot Street to have my acne treated. I had a dermatologist consultation and was given a prescription. She gave me a multi-pronged approach which I liked (regulation of hormones, sebaceous gland bacteria, etc.). She suggested I go on the oral contraceptive pill as part of this, but I didn’t want this at the time. I had done some research on the pill and voiced my opinions to the doctor. She suggested to take all the other approaches without the pill, but in the end, I decided to go with the pill after all. My skin has been almost perfect ever since. I paid GP rates for the consultation (around 50 Euro) and the prescription was a separate bill. Any other consultant would have charged me at least 70/80 Euro. I contacted them for a repeat prescription. I sebaceous for this, but it was nothing out of the ordinary (20/30 I think). There were no side effects. My doctor was quite personable. I’d recommend them.

Rating from 3 Reviews My treatment was very well executed and I had a very positive experienceJames, Ireland, 10 08 18

I attended The Wicklow Street Clinic for Laser treatment. My treatment was very well executed and I had a very positive experience. I was very pleased with the outcome. My experience was excellent I was warmly welcomed and shown to a clean bright treatment room. I have attended my clinic's in Dublin city. However, I have to say hands down the team in The Wicklow Street Clinic are the best they are friendly and extremely professional. The Therapist I attended was Jenny. She was knowledgeable about the procedure and also made sure I understood each step that I was going to experience during the procedure to the aftercare. Could not give her enough praise an expert in her field for sure.
