Pigmentation treatments are procedures performed to treat discoloured skin. Skin pigmentation is caused by excessive exposure to the sun or the advancement of age. Are pigmentation treatments painful?

IPL and laser assisted treatments for pigmentation are performed after rubbing numbing cream over the treatment areas. Patients will not feel any pain or may feel some minor discomfort during procedures.  Topical creams and peels should not cause any pain.

Can I travel by air after having pigmentation treatment?

Patients should avoid travelling by air for at least a week after IPL assisted pigmentation treatments.  Patients can travel by air one day after laser assisted pigmentation treatments after taking the advice of their dermatologist.

When will I recover after pigmentation treatments?

It takes three days to a week for patients to recover after an IPL assisted pigmentation treatment. It takes from six to 12 weeks to completely recover from laser assisted pigmentation treatments.  

What care is required after having pigmentation treatments?

Patients should place cold packs over the treatment area to reduce redness after IPL assisted pigmentation treatments. They should avoid exposure of the IPL or laser treated areas to direct sunlight. They should not use bleaching creams or face scrubs for at least a month on the IPL or laser treated areas. They should avoid touching or scratching the IPL or laser treated areas.

I emailed Dr. Kent on Tuesday night explaining I had a milia on my eyelid that I wanted to have removed. First thing Wednesday morning I had an email back offering me a free consultation. I contacted Dr. Kent’s secretary and made an appointment for the following Saturday. Dr. Kent was brilliant. He explained that he could not use laser to remove the milia as it was too close to my eye, and he recommended another treatment which involved micro needles which would apply an electric current. I was very happy to have the treatment as I was very self-conscious and wanted the milia gone. The treatment only took about 15 minutes and I was delighted with the result. It was painful towards the end but nothing unbearable. I would highly recommend Dr. Kent, he was polite, he explained everything to me, answered my questions and put me at ease. The surgery and waiting room were bright and spotlessly clean. I would highly recommend Dr. Kent.
