For removable braces, an impression of the teeth is taken and a technician makes the removable brace consisting of a plastic plate and wires. The brace is then fitted on teeth.

How do braces work on teeth?

Braces exert a steady pressure on teeth. The pressure is periodically adjusted as needed by the orthodontist. Eventually the pressure exerted by braces corrects the alignment of teeth.

Do braces hurt?

Braces are uncomfortable when first placed on teeth. Patients experience soreness and need to get used to the pressure exerted on the teeth by braces. Patients normally get used to braces within a month.

I am a nervous patient – so embarrassing, but I can’t help it! Adam saw me when I had an infected tooth. He gave me antibiotics and advised that if the swelling got worse near my eye, I should go to A\&E. If he hadn’t, I would have just stayed at home. The swelling got really bad – I had to go to A\&E and had the abscess drained. So thankful for his advice! Then he had to extract the tooth. He was so kind and sympathetic, and so was the nurse. I can’t thank them enough. x
