What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

All the staff were lovely as usualHannah, UK, 22 09 23

I had a great experience recently at the Cherwell Heights dental practice! The dentist fit me in for 2 fillings last minute during a routine check-up, which really helped out and having a small toddler I find it hard to fit in these appointments. All the staff were lovely as usual!

Dental Crowns
Emax Crowns £450 - £600
Veneers and crowns can be used to improve the appearance, shape and colour of teeth. They can be made from a variety of materials including porcelain and composite. They can be carried out alone or complemented with tooth alignment and whitening. They can be solution to provide you with the smile you’ve always dreamed of and can take as little as 2 weeks to complete. Cosmetic VeneersVeneers are a thin tooth-coloured material bonded to the outer surface of the tooth to improve the shape and/or colour of teeth. They can also be used to close gaps between teeth. Veneers can be directly applied to teeth or indirectly made by a dental laboratory. Veneers require little or no tooth preparation. At Deddington Dental we can make a mock wax up of your teeth to show you the design of the teeth and end result. Direct VeneersThese are usually made from a composite material that is directly bonded to your tooth. These are then polished. At Deddington Dental we use the latest composite materials to make the veneers appear natural. Indirect/Lab Made VeneersThese are custom made in a laboratory. The teeth usually require little or no preparation. Moulds of your mouth are taken after preparation. These are then sent to a local private laboratory with directions of the shape and shade required (shade is predetermined in the lab with the help of the patient). Temporary veneers are placed for 2 weeks. Once made – the final veneers are tried in and cemented onto the teeth. Cosmetic CrownsCrowns are similar to veneers but cover the whole tooth as opposed to just the front surface. At Deddington Dental for cosmetic crowns on front teeth we usually use highly aesthetic emax crowns.
