Root Canals

I'm an absolute mess each and every time I need dental treatment. This time it was serious - a root canal! However, from my first visit, I feel well cared for and my phobia treated sympathetically.

Very professional and caring clinic.

Braces

Braces - Deddington Dental

Braces are an excellent way of correcting crooked or malpositioned teeth and allowing you to have the smile you’ve always wanted. Braces have long been used on children but more and more adults are realising the amazing results of braces. Having straight teeth is not only of cosmetic benefit but also aids in the cleaning of teeth resulting in better health.

We offer both fixed and removable ‘invisible’ braces – our dentists will carry out a thorough examination to deem your mouth healthy and suitable for braces and then discuss the best orthodontic options for your specific case with you.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a removable, clear, nearly invisible orthodontic system, which typically takes 6-18 months to straighten teeth. It can be used to correct crossbites, overjet, overbite and crowding and works great on children and adults.

The dentist will take a mould of your teeth and this gets sent to the Invisalign headquarters based in America. A

3D simulation of your teeth and final result can be shown to you before you commit to treatment.

Custom made removable aligners are then made to fit your teeth – each is worn for 2 weeks and then changed to the next in the sequence. This incredibly discreet system should be worn for a minimum of 20 hours a day. It can be removed when eating and cleaning the teeth.

Fastbraces

This is a fixed braces system suitable for both children and adults. Fastbraces technology works on moving the crown and the root of the tooth at the same time allowing treatment time to range from only 3-12 months. This safe and quick system is just as effective as conventional orthodontic treatment but results are much quicker due to the root and crown movement being simultaneous.

Emax Crowns

Veneers and crowns can be used to improve the appearance, shape and colour of teeth. They can be made from a variety of materials including porcelain and composite. They can be carried out alone or complemented with tooth alignment and whitening. They can be solution to provide you with the smile you’ve always dreamed of and can take as little as 2 weeks to complete.

Cosmetic Veneers

Veneers are a thin tooth-coloured material bonded to the outer surface of the tooth to improve the shape and/or colour of teeth. They can also be used to close gaps between teeth.

Veneers can be directly applied to teeth or indirectly made by a dental laboratory. Veneers require little or no tooth preparation. At Deddington Dental we can make a mock wax up of your teeth to show you the design of the teeth and end result.

Direct Veneers

These are usually made from a composite material that is directly bonded to your tooth. These are then polished. At Deddington Dental we use the latest composite materials to make the veneers appear natural.

Indirect/Lab Made Veneers

These are custom made in a laboratory. The teeth usually require little or no preparation. Moulds of your mouth are taken after preparation. These are then sent to a local private laboratory with directions of the shape and shade required (shade is predetermined in the lab with the help of the patient). Temporary veneers are placed for 2 weeks. Once made – the final veneers are tried in and cemented onto the teeth.

Cosmetic Crowns

Crowns are similar to veneers but cover the whole tooth as opposed to just the front surface. At Deddington Dental for cosmetic crowns on front teeth we usually use highly aesthetic emax crowns.

Dental Implants

Dental Implants - Deddington Dental
Dental implants are an excellent option to replace missing teeth. They are a fixed option as opposed to dentures, which are removable. No drilling is required on adjacent teeth (like with bridges), thus preserving all of your own tooth structure.   A small painless surgical procedure is needed to place the implant into the jaw bone. The implant acts as a replacement of the missing tooth root and the abutment and crown restore the part of the tooth which is evident in the mouth.

In some cases implants can be placed as soon as the tooth is removed (known as immediate replacement) but most cases are carried out after a healing period of 3-6 months. If implants are looked after well they can last for the rest of your life. They are the closest thing to having your own tooth back.

Dental implants are not suitable for all patients – a thorough implant assessment would be carried out and then suitability discussed.

The Process

Before implants are placed, the dentist will have assessed your mouth and discussed the best options with you. An x-ray or ConeBeam CT scan of the area will be taken to check for the important structures in the area.

The implant placement is usually done under a local anaesthetic. The procedure itself is painless. The gum is peeled back and the implant is placed securely into the jaw bone. The gum is then placed back over the implant to allow it to heal and integrate. The implant is left for around 3 months to allow for healing and is reviewed in this time.

A second smaller procedure is then undertaken to uncover the implant and shape the gum around it after which and impression of your mouth is taken so that the crown can be made in our hi-tech lab. Once made this can be cemented onto the implant to restore your smile.

Endodontics

Endodontics - Deddington Dental
Failed root canal treatment elsewhere? Here at Deddington Dental we are proud to offer specialist root canal treatment. Root canal treatment sometimes cannot be offered on the NHS due to the complexity and cost involved. Our dentist Dr Kristlee Fernandes has a special interest in root canal/endodontic treatment and can save most teeth that other dentists cannot.Dr Fernandes can provide painless, successful and comfortable endodontic treatment. At Deddington Dental we use the latest in rotary root canal equipment to help to save your tooth. You can see Dr Fernandes for a free consultation to discuss the suitability for root canal treatment.

Specialist root canal treatment is recommended in:

  1. complex root canal anatomy or curved roots
  2. previously failed root canal treatment
  3. root canal treatment of teeth with crowns already on them
  4. pain from existing root canal treatment
  5. root perforations/broken instruments in the root canal system

When decay spreads into the nerve of a tooth it can cause the nerve to become inflamed, die or become infected. Sometimes this can cause bad tooth ache and sometimes the nerve can die without any pain. When this happens – root canal treatment is required to save the tooth.

At Deddington Dental we use rotary root canal systems available to treat your teeth. Using this latest technology we can provide pain free root canal treatment and aim for the best quality and success rates possible.

Root canal treatment usually takes 1-2 appointments to complete. Local anaesthetic is used and the decay in your tooth is removed – similar to how a filling is done. The dead or inflamed nerve is cleaned out and disinfected. The nerve is replaced with a filling material to seal it off to bacteria and to prevent problems in the future. A crown will usually be recommended after this treatment to protect the brittle tooth.

Sedation for dental treatments

At Deddington Dental we welcome nervous patients. We understand that for some people visiting the dentist can be a daunting thought. In our experience good communication and taking time to explain and discuss your treatment in a relaxing environment can help to reduce anxiety tremendously.

Both Dr Taj Sihra and Dr Akhil Gupta are trained in providing dental treatment under sedation and for working with nervous patients. We can offer various forms of sedation for nervous patients.

Oral and Inhalation Sedation

For mild anxiety the dentist can prescribe a tablet 1 hour before dental treatment to calm your nerves. Inhalation sedation involves breathing gas and air during a procedure to help relax you. These are both a mild form of sedation.

Intravenous (IV) Sedation

IV sedation is offered for anxious or nervous patients after being assessed by the dentist. A medicine is injected into your arm and within seconds you feel more relaxed and less aware of what is going on around you. Treatment can be carried out in this more relaxed state. During the procedure the dentist or sedationist monitors your heart rate, blood pressure and blood oxygen levels. You are not asleep during the procedure but most patients do not remember the dental procedure itself.

Teeth Whitening

What is it?

Teeth whitening is a safe and non destructive way of whitening and bleaching your teeth to improve your smile. The dental bleach safely whitens the teeth and removes staining.

The Procedure

After your teeth are assessed by the dentist as being suitable for the procedure, moulds of your teeth are taken to construct bleaching trays that are custom made for your teeth. These are then fitted in your mouth and you wear them nightly with the provided bleach for an average of 14 nights (depending on how light you want to go). After this your teeth are assessed again and the colour change is recorded. Most patients notice a change of at least 8 shades.

Enlighten Whitening

We are happy to offer Enlighten Whitening. SPECIAL OFFER £449 (Usually £599).

Enlighten offers a premium bleaching product which leads to an increased level of whitening for those who want to whiten as much as possible. It includes home bleaching and an in-surgery power boost. Speak to your dentist about this at the free consultation.

What makes Enlighten different and last indefinitely?

– Bleach Trays – this is the most important factor when it comes to whitening. Enlighten’s trays are constructed very well and are extremely well fitting – this leads to an improved contact of the bleach to your enamel leading to a much deeper bleach – which lasts much longer.

– In-surgery bleaching boost locks in the whiteness and gives a fantastic result.

– Bleach – the actual bleaching solutions are the best formulation on the market.

– After Care – We provide a tailored after care regime so that the effects of the bleaching last and if you follow this we expect them to last indefinitely.

Treatment for Wrinkles

Treatment for Wrinkles - Deddington DentalTreatment for Wrinkles - Deddington Dental

At Deddington Dental we have dentists who are experienced in anti-wrinkle treatment. This includes Antiwrinkle injections and Dermal Fillers. These are a safe and cost effective ways to reduce the signs of ageing

Facial expressions are controlled by the underlying facial muscles. Through over activity these facial expressions create wrinkles, which can over time get deeper and more visible even when your face is at rest. This can result in deep lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes. Individuals can start to appear more aged than they are.

Our anti-wrinkle injections contain a muscle relaxant which has been used since the 1980’s to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and create a younger, smoother appearance to the skin. It works by blocking signals between nerves to the muscle, causing the muscle to contract less and thus temporarily paralysing the underlying muscle responsible for the wrinkles. This results in a smoother, younger appearance.

A thorough consultation is carried out to assess your concerns and deem you suitable for treatment. Treatment time takes only 15-30 minutes. Results are evident from 3-14 days after treatment. A review is arranged 3 weeks after placement to assess the results and provide any top-ups if necessary. The effects are not permanent and on average last 3-6 months. Over time, patients tend to require less frequent treatment as the effects last longer.
