After attending the University of Saskatchewan he obtained a DDS degree in 1972 from the University of Alberta. He practiced general dentistry in Swift Current and Wetaskiwin, Alberta from 1972 - 1978. Post-graduate training in periodontics was obtained at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.

He practiced general dentistry for two years before heading to the East Coast. In 2014 where he completed a periodontal residency program at the University of Boston. After teaching at his alma mater he joined the PerioPartners team late in 2014.

He graduated with a Master’s in Craniofacial Sciences and Diploma in Periodontics from the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Dentistry. He has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and received his dental degree from the University of Sydney in Australia.
