Who is suitable for a Gastric Band operation?Whether or not you are suitable for an operation can only be decided after a careful discussion with a Surgeon who specialises in treating obesity. Surgery may bean option for a person:o  Who has a BMI of 30 or moreo  Who has a BMI of 30, and a medical condition that would be improved by losing weighto  Who has made serious prolonged attempts to lose weight by other meanso  Aged 18 or oldero  Who does not have medical or psychological factors that make them unsuitable for an operationo  Who is fit enough for an operation and a general anaesthetico  Who commits to long term follow up. o   We do not offer weight loss surgery to people who smoke.This information is for people who are having or thinking about having an operation to fit a gastric band. This is usually done by Keyholeor Laparoscopic Surgery. Gastric Banding is a type of weight loss surgery. The size of your stomach is reduced using a band so that only small meals can be eaten and you feel fuller sooner.Most patients will go home the day after their operation.Your surgeon will explain the benefits and risks of having a gastric band fitted, and will also discuss the alternatives to the operation. It is important to remember that your care may be different from how it is described here because it is adapted to meet your individual needs.We have learned that many potential problems after the surgery are related to the diet and most can be avoided byfollowing some simple rules.

Brilliant service. Dr Awad went through all the questions I had and was full of information. Rachel’s initial discussions made so much sense about the pros and cons of a sleeve in comparison to a band. The aftercare package is the best on the market when I Compare. I think I will be going with them for my procedure in May/June 2021. Quote price £10250. Brilliant.

Having developed high blood pressure at an early age of 23 and having lots of tests carried out with no real answers, I began to question my weight. A few years passed after trying various different well-known diets and failed miserably. I gained more weight if anything! I came across Mr Hamouda after a recommendation from a close family member who has also had a sleeve operation - losing close to 8st in under a year, she has also maintained this weight for nearly 18 months. On my initial consultation with Hamouda, I felt at ease and was able to disclose any personal issues relating to eating disorders. My wife and my 8-month-old child were all welcome. He likes to invite close family members to your appointments as he likes you to have support from your loved ones, I thought that he would find my child annoying throughout the consultation but Dr Hamouda was the complete opposite. Once I was accepted for my sleeve operation I was put under the careful care of he's team who were all brilliant at every stage. The support was there for me before, during and now after my operation. The care at Benenden was outstanding, treated like a king in his own hotel room! 1-1 care, nothing was a problem and would recommend this hospital for anyone thinking of weight loss surgery. Since my operation just over a year ago I have lost nearly 9st. Without a sleeve operation, this would never of happen. My BMI has dropped by 15 and has lost over 60 inches around my whole body. If anyone for some reason is questioning Dr Hamouda or weight loss surgery then don’t! Dr Hamouda not only changed my life but allowed me to start living it again. In the words of my wife, “ he’s like a new man now “ This just leaves me to say THANK YOU! You are an outstanding consultant and a genuine hero of mine.
