I visited BIDC this time (my fourth visit) to complete the final stage of an implant. My reason for starting treatment with BIDC was my advice from my own dentist (in Australia) that one molar was cracked, that removal was required, and that a dental implant would be the best solution. (Later investigations showed that another molar would need similar attention). The excessive cost of implant work in Australia made the option of treatment at BIDC very attractive.
I also had a root canal treatment, one filling and two crowns. Coming from Australia to get treatment at BIDC makes a lot of sense, especially if you can fit it around other travel plans. Just remember, if you are getting crowns made, you need to leave up to a week after the preparation and raking impressions for the crowns to be made and then a day - or better two - for the crowns to be fitted and checked.
BIDC have an outstanding business model. It starts of course with highly trained staff, state-of-the-art facilities and high quality performance. But the thing that sets them apart is service. When you arrive, they provide the first consultation, develop a program of treatment and then do everything to fit in with your needs. This means making appointments to fit your other commitments, always seeing you on time (or even early on many occasions if you arrive before the time), providing meticulous treatment and making absolutely certain that all the work will be satisfactorily completed, checked and double-checked before you are due to leave Bangkok. I had more than ten sessions with four specialists over five days and it all worked like clock-work. I tell my friends that BIDC provide better service than any restaurant, hotel or airline I know.
The best aspects of my experience with BIDC were the interactions with dentists and support staff who were always helpful and supportive. The worst experience was the removal of my two molars prior to implants which was hard going!
I would highly recommend having dental work of this type carried out at BIDC and would have no issues regarding cleanliness, reliability or quality of the work they do. Some tips would be:
- If you require extraction prior to implant work, have this done at home and allow the required period afterwards (BIDC will advise) so that work can start on the implant on your first visit
- when you are getting a crown, you will need to have two visits, one for the preparation work and one, a week later, for fitting the crown. You will need to fit this around your holiday or other travel plans.
In general terms, expect to pay around half of what you would pay or less. Obviously, the more work, or more costly type if work you are getting done, the better the economics of off-shore dentistry will look. If you can justify a visit or two to Bangkok as part of a planned trip to Europe or Asia (and thus don't need to consider the cost of air fares) then I would recommend BIDC for even your routine dentistry or minor work.
