What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges, also called tooth bridges, are placed when patients have one or more teeth missing or have gaps between their teeth. It usually takes two visits to get dental bridges fitted and the procedure takes about two hours.

What different types of dental bridges are there?

Traditional dental bridges consist of two crowns placed on healthy teeth on either side of the missing teeth, or gap, and the bridge then covers the gap supported by the two crowns. Cantilever bridges are placed when there are healthy teeth only on one side of the bridge. Maryland bridges are bonded to the backs of teeth on either side of the bridge and are not connected to crowns. Implant retained bridges are bridges that are placed over implants fixed in the gums. These bridges are placed when several implants are surgically inserted.

Is fitting dental bridges painful?

The dentist will numb the area where the dental bridge is to be placed before performing the procedure. Patients will not feel any pain during the procedure.

When can I travel by air after fitting dental bridges?

Patients should be able to fly two days after fitting their dental bridge. If they feel any pain or sensitivity after the procedure, they should consult their dentist for medications or postpone their journey till the pain or sensitivity has abated.

How long does recovery after fitting dental bridges take?

If patients feel pain or sensitivity after a dental bridge is fitted, they should recover within a week.

How do I care for my teeth after fitting dental bridges?

Patients should follow a normal dental hygiene routine. Patients should brush and floss their teeth and maintain proper hygiene. Patients should avoid eating or drinking anything that is too hot, cold or too hard, for at least a week after the procedure.

What are the alternatives to fitting dental bridges?

Some alternatives to dental bridges are partial dentures or removable dentures.

I had bridge work done which involved five teeth on each lower side. My consult with the dentist was excellent. The equipment was up to date and I was very comfortable while the work was being done. I chose this clinic when I was searching the Internet for a clinic in Lima. The site had pictures and I was able to receive quotes on different procedures within a few days.

A Dental Bridge literally bridges the gap that is left by one or more missing teeth. A bridge can be made up of two or more dental crowns on either side of the gap with a false tooth or teeth in between. The false teeth are normally made of porcelain, or a composite material such as E-MAX. They are an economical way of replacing missing teeth.

Rating from 15 Reviews I was very pleased with the treatment and the costAnonymous, Vienna, VA , 05 05 16

I was very pleased with my treatment at smiles Peru in April 2016. My US dentist said I had a cracked molar and needed to get a crown within a year or two. Smiles Peru by email quoted me a full price of $400, including $60 for the initial examination. That was exactly what they charged (after giving me a discount for paying in cash). They said the tooth had small cracks in it and they weren't sure that it would crack more, but it was possible. They told me that they thought a crown, destroying much of the tooth could be done if I wanted that but that they would recommend a filling and porcelain overlay instead which would preserve more of the tooth. I agreed. They took out the 50 year old filling and found some decay which they cleaned They also said there was still some discoloring. If they did the most conservative treatment they would take that out as well, but that would likely expose the root and require a root canal. The discolored area was hard and they thought it was just the tooth reaction and that there was less than five percent chance that it would decay further. They put something in to deter further decay. A root canal would have taken two days more and $300 more. They treated me in two hours with initial exam and advice and then exposing and temporarily filling the hole in the molar and then the next day took out a temporary filling and put in the porcelain and overlay in another two hours. The novacane stopped any pain the first day and there was fairly minor pain putting the new filling in since there was no anesthetic the second day (sensibly - the pain was very brief and not very substantial). They had color options for the molar to match my other teeth. They measured the overlay and filling need by optical reader and produced it in their office. It did need some adjustment - cutting it back to permit flossing of neighboring teeth and reducing the height slightly. They asked me to come back to ensure it was fine - and it was - and they didn't charge any more money. I am not an expert on teeth, but it seemed to me they did an excellent job, with excellent modern equipment and giving me options and not trying to increase the cost with treatment that I might not have wanted or needed. The clinic • • The clinic has a number of dentists, some of whom speak English. They have modern equipment including computerized scanning of the tooth to be fixed and production within their office of the needed crown or in my case porcelain filling and overlay. • • • There were a several Americans that I saw visiting the practice and some Peruvians. But they seemed to have flexibility on making a new appointment at the time I wanted the second day and a few days later. A Peruvian told me that it could be done cheaper, but she had to go back numerous times for an infected molar to her cllnic before being treated under the national insurance, so I was glad not to use them. Given my limited time and their highly professional operation, I was very pleased with the treatment and the cost. Another Peruvian clinic reviewed by "what clinic" quoted me a substantially higher price and was less convenient. • • I have no complaints whatsoever but given my lack of expertise in teeth and processes, I rated them excellent rather than something higher.

Rating from 13 Reviews Throughout my extensive restorations, I never experienced pain, discomfort or anxietyRose, Plymouth, 26 10 17

Unfortunately, at an early age, I required extensive dental restoration. I began my journey to good dental health with my local dentist. I live in the U.S where the extensive dental repairs I needed, including bone grafts, root canals, crowns, dental implants, and an all-on-four device, cost upwards of $45,000. A few years ago, I started the process of restoring my smile; regrettably, I had horrible experiences with my local dentists, which resulted in an unhealthy fear of dentists, a debt of around $15,000 on implants and crowns that were substandard and unattractive. This result led me to an alternative I had read about and researched: dental tourism. When I began the process to restore my smile, I based my search for a “dental destination” primarily on affordability. At the beginning of my exploration for an exotic location with reasonable dental care, I was drawn to a few different countries including Costa Rica, Hungary, Peru, and Mexico. I was frightened, uneasy, cautious and hesitant to make a final decision as I was investing and trusting in, a dental facility without ever stepping foot in it. After six months of extensive research, numerous phone conversations, consultations, and negotiations, I decided to trust Peru Dental with my smile restoration. My decision was based on many factors. From the beginning of my long journey to the right dental team, I found Peru Dental accommodating, supportive, straightforward, easy to communicate with and trustworthy. Lloyd, the Peru Dental liaison throughout the process, was patient, kind, knowledgeable and always willing to answer any question. The travel arrangements, transitions, and clinic appointments were uncomplicated, so by the time I arrived at Peru Dental, I immediately felt at ease. The office was clean and modern, the technology impressive and the staff fantastic. I was fearful because of my painful and challenging past dental experiences, so the dental team ensured my comfort and carefully walked through every aspect of my treatment step-by-step. Throughout my extensive restorations, I never experienced pain, discomfort or anxiety. I felt at ease and delighted with the care I was given. The team was never satisfied with just getting the job done; they often stayed late and worked until we were both satisfied with the result. In the beginning of the process to restore my smile, I was searching outside the US primarily based on affordability. With Peru Dental, I found an affordable and fantastic smile, but I also discovered something I wasn't expecting: a higher level of care and attention than I have never encountered in a pricey U.S dental office. I can’t recommend Peru Dental enough. They are an excellent group of professionals, complete with qualified, courteous, talented, and honest team members. Every time I look at my smile, I am thankful I trusted Peru Dental with my care. I will be happy to speak with anyone considering Peru Dental; please contact them so they can connect you with me. My experience could not have been better. The dental team ensured my comfort and carefully walked through every aspect of my treatment step-by-step. Throughout my extensive restorations, I never experienced pain, discomfort, or anxiety; I felt at ease and delighted with the care I was given. The team was never satisfied with just getting the job done; they often stayed late and worked until we were both satisfied with the result.

Rating from 1 Review The whole experience was flawlessJudy, Peru, 23 05 17

I got an appointment immediately I arrived in Lima. Dr. Flávio fitted a tooth into my Denture, which he did on the spot as I had a limited amount of time. I chose the clinic as he rang me personally after sending him a message. The whole experience with Dr. Flávio was flawless. He did a absolutely fabulous job. He was very professional and made me feel immediately at ease with his warm friendly manner. In fact I will be returning to have some more work done when I return to Lima.
