This is the regular type of extraction that a lot of patients have experienced in the past. The tooth is loosened and removed with a forceps. 

The advantage of this extraction type is that healing is quicker.

However this method is not suited to all teeth. There must be adequate sound tooth structure to grip for this type of extraction. This extraction method is not suited to impacted teeth, badly broken down or decayed teeth or those with multiple roots in dense bone.

An unusually thick, large, or tight lingual frenum can seriously constrict the movement of the tongue -- this condition is called "tongue-tie," and is, in fact, the source of this metaphorical phrase. Children who are tongue-tied may have difficulty breastfeeding as infants, and may later develop speech problems. The lingual frenum may also pull so strongly on the middle of the tongue that the tongue acquires a "heart" shape. Treatment

A frenectomy is a simple procedure, generally taking less than fifteen minutes. Using the laser, the surgeon will excise the frenum in question.
