What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

Everything was explained clearly, and I never felt rushed or judgedHannah, Ireland, 20 05 25

Couldn’t recommend Seapoint Clinic more. The staff are honestly some of the friendliest I’ve ever come across, really warm and welcoming from the moment I walked in. I’m quite a nervous patient, but they made the whole experience feel calm and reassuring. Everything was explained clearly, and I never felt rushed or judged. The place is spotless and has a lovely, calm atmosphere too. I left feeling surprisingly at ease and actually feel good about coming back (which is saying a lot for me!). Big thanks to the whole team.

Dental Crowns €800 - €1300
Crowns are used where a tooth has been significantly weakened from decay or old fillings or trauma. Cosmetic crowns are also used to improve the appearance of teeth that have had old fillings or in poor positions.
Dental Implants (Titanium) from €1995
Dental implants are a particular area of expertise at the Seapoint Clinic. Our dentists have been thoroughly trained with some of the worlds greatest experts and have completed hundreds of implant treatments successfully. We have everything we could possibly need onsite to provide implants in a safe and caring environment. We are one of the only dental clinics in Ireland to have a dental CT scanner. This allows us to avoid damage to important nerves in the jaws and to the sinuses. With the CT scanner we can tell before your implant visit whether your bone is suitable, instead of having to undergo a painful investigation under an anesthetic. We have fully computerised planning systems which allow us to perform surgery in a virtual environment to ensure optimum results. Such equipment doesnt come cheap but as we place so many implants we keep the cost to the patient much lower than you would expect for such technological innovation.
Veneers €900 - €1300
Multiple Vaneers €700 each Veneers are thin, semi-translucent “shells” typically attached to your front teeth. Veneers are customized from porcelain material and permanently bonded to your teeth. Veneers are a great alternative to otherwise painful dental procedures to improve the appearance of your smile. Common problems that veneers are used for: Spaces between the teeth, Broken or chipped teeth, Unsightly, stained or discolored teeth, Permanently stained or discolored teeth that cannot be sufficiently bleached, Crooked or misshapen teeth. Veneers are a great aesthetic solution to your smile that may even help you avoid treatment. Subtle changes to your smile can be achieved with veneers, and in most cases, veneer application is completed in only two office visits.
