Liposuction is a surgical technique that improves the body’s contour by removing excess fat from fatty deposits located between the skin and muscle. Body sculpturing by liposuction is literally a dream come true. Tummy tuck surgery takes approximately four hours and is performed under general anesthesia. This procedure may be performed on an in-patient or outpatient basis, depending on the complexity of the surgery and Dr. Chaudhari’s recommendation, based on the pre-operative consultation. The procedure is performed using two incisions: one from hipbone to hipbone close to the pubic area, and another small incision around the navel. The skin is then separated from the abdominal muscles, and those muscles are then pulled together and stitched into place for a firmer abdomen and narrower waist. The skin is stretched down and over the newly tightened muscles, excess skin removed, and the navel is brought out through the skin in a natural position. Finally, Dr. Chaudhari will place some drains, close the incisions, and apply sterile surgical dressings over the sutured areas.

During a panniculectomy procedure, a horizontal incision is made across the abdomen, and a vertical incision from the bottom of the sternum to the pubic bone. Excess skin is then carefully removed and any existing hernias closed before the remaining skin is pulled together and sutured closed. Drainage tubes may be used to remove excess fat. The panniculectomy is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Surgery may take several hours, depending on the amount of skin to be removed, and patients are typically hospitalized for a few days following surgery.
