I considered Full Abdominoplasty for a many years post pregnancy. I researched many surgeons, facilities and hospitals in Dublin before proceeding. My first consultation with Mr. Fuan Chan MB BCh BAO BA AFRCSI MD FRCSI(Plast) was October 2019. From that first encounter I knew I had found my surgeon. Mr. Chan is a very experienced and knowledgeable surgeon, following that initial consultation I felt at ease. There were many reasons I choose Mr. Chan, his professional training and experience, his positive and friendly attitude and the knowledge that the procedure would be carried out in a hospital (Blackrock Hospital is a leading private hospital in Dublin) I knew I would be well cared for from start to finish. He answered all my questions and made sure I fully understood the procedure, risks and aftercare requirements. He verbally explained everything and provided documents for me to read ensuring I considered everything before agreeing to move forward. In the following weeks I called back and I booked my appointment for August 2020. Due to Covid-19 restrictions my surgery was pushed to Nov 2020. 2 weeks prior to the surgery we met and discussed what would happen on the day and the aftercare including a hospital stay. He ran through all the risks again. I had a precautionary Covid-19 test prior to the procedure day. On the procedure day, I checked in early, a nurse went through all my charts, ran routine blood tests etc. Mr. Chan was there and we ran through the procedure again, I felt very comfortable as they both got me ready for my procedure. I met the antitheist, and he went through his own list of questions and prior to going into the surgery every document was checked again by another nurse to ensure accuracy. I walked into the theatre and was made comfortable whilst they connected the aesthetic – that was the last thing I remember. I woke up 5-6 hrs later in my room wearing a full medical binder/girdle that sat under my breasts and ran past my hips. I stayed overnight. Mr. Chan met me when I woke and again later that evening. I had a nurse check regularly. I had two drains for the wound. My wound was sealed and I had a Prevana Plus pump attached which helps to manage the environment of closed surgical incisions and remove fluid away from the surgical incision via continuous negative pressure. The next day Mr. Chan was around early in the morning again. Mid-morning the nurse removed the catheter. Post lunch Mr. Chan returned to remove the two drains. The pump stays on for 7 days to assist with the healing. The pump has a tube to the wound and continuously works day and night, it’s got a low hum noise, and it clips on to your clothing. It’s non evasive. I left the hospital wearing my binder/girdle, my attached pump holding my list of aftercare and medication. I did call with aftercare questions and in that first week Mr. Chan said to come to the clinic. Every single appointment, question or visit before and after my procedure was with Mr. Chan himself. I’m 7 weeks post op now and I am super happy with my progress, the combination of Mr. Chan's exceptional work, the pump, and the constant wearing of the binder/girdle have given me a shape I never thought I would have. The wound line is exceptionally neat. Mr. Chan did have a long waiting list but for me he was the only surgeon so I was happy to wait and the additional time allowed me to continue to exercise and eat well, the more work you do beforehand the better results you can expect. I highly recommend his work, his attitude and his professionalism - he’s an artist. I am blissfully happy with my journey.
