About EmBIO Medical Center

EmBIO Medical Center is acknowledged as one of the best European fertility clinics and one of the most successful IVF centers in Greece since 1996. IVF success rates at EmBIO reach 70% for egg donation and embryo donation fertility treatments.

EmBIO was the fertility center in Greece where the first birth from a frozen egg, the first donor egg IVF pregnancy, and the first IVF-vitrification took place.

Unexplained infertility, azoospermia, infertility in women over 40, or carriers of genetic diseases are just problems to be solved at this modern IVF clinic easily reached at a short distance from Athens International Airport.

The fertility centre is situated at a quiet, leafy suburb. In its luxurious rooms, you will immediately feel welcome and confident that you are in the right place for your pregnancy, surrounded by caring people who readily understand your needs.

Taking a look at the IVF clinic reviews, you see that EmBIO staff are very well chosen. They answer promptly and clearly all your queries, and are there for you almost around the clock to make sure your fertility treatment will have the best chances of success (even while you are being monitored by your doctor at home).

EmBIO IVF center’s cutting-edge embryo lab is directed by Embryologist Dina Katrania, who participated in

one of the first ICSI procedures in

the UK.

The fertility center’s Director, Gynecologist and Fertility Specialist Dr. Thanos Paraschos is an attentive listener and a man of action. You will get to see him every time you visit the clinic, and benefit from the fact that he does all the fertility procedures himself (from ultrasound to oocyte retrieval and painless embryo transfer, using the ultrasound assisted catheter he designed at Hammersmith Hospital, London, in Lord Professor Robert Winston’s team.

He was in the team that performed the world’s first PGD at Hammersmith Hospital, London, in 1989 alongside Lord Professor Robert Winston.

The treatment was excellent compared with the treatment we had in Ireland over a period of 5 years. Straight to point, no waffle pregnant on second egg donation attempt.

Everyone was very helpful Elena and Dr Thanos especially now we have a wonderful son just wish we had have found out about them before trying in IVF clinic in Ireland.

"Poor level of customer care and service"
0.5 50Reviewed 24 Mar 2017 Review verified by phone.
Treatment Received: Fertility Specialist Consultation
In the first instance I was charged excessively over the advertised rates in the region of 3 - 3,500 Euros. And, as the treatment failed, I was not able to afford a second attempt. I was also charged 500 Euros for the sperm donor treatment even though, due to the clinic’s inadequate sperm donor programme, I used an outside sperm donor bank at a further cost of 1,200 Euros.
Secondly, the treatment lacked any individual patient care or sufficient protocol:
My embryo transfer, which was advised to be painless, was excruciating. This extent of pain would very likely have caused my uterus to contract and hence make implantation of embryos and pregnancy impossible. To avoid this problem other clinics carry out a `mock transfer’ prior to the `actual transfer’ whereby the angle of the uterine canal as well as any obstructions caused by fibroid's, which I have, is assessed. This assessment hence allows the doctor to use the most effective transfer technique to use, including the type of catheter – soft or hard, in carrying out the procedure.
The clinic failed to carry out a progesterone level test; this hormone is essential for implantation for which there is a short `window of opportunity’ and can be supplemented if seen to be insufficient. And, even when I informed the clinic that, unknowingly, I had taken too low a dose of progesterone, I was not prescribed a supplement.
I was not advised of the grading or quality of the embryos transferred whereas in many IVF clinics this is information is provided, along with images. Also, I was highly disappointed and surprised that there were no viable embryos to freeze despite having used a young, healthy egg donor as selected by the clinic that should have produced many high quality embryos. This outcome again seriously affected my opportunity of having a second attempt as to have this treatment using frozen embryos the costs are considerably less.
The clinic was not adequately resourced as, on the day of my transfer, it was exceptionally overstretched with back to back procedures being carried out. Hence, there was very little time allowed for me to speak to the doctor and I received inadequate advice or information on my treatment overall.
The small waiting/recovery room was packed out, with there not being enough beds for all of the patients – some having to wait in a side room or sit on stools. Many of these patients appeared to be egg donors. My experience felt more like being in a `cattle market’ serving the interests of the clinic only and its financial gain.
Although I have contacted the clinic with my complaints but they have not replied. Hence I feel very let down. The experience of IVF is an emotional and physical rollercoaster and I found the experience and outcome quite devastating. It’s important for patients to choose a clinic with a caring and professional approach and, unfortunately in my experience, the standards were far below acceptable.
The only positive aspect of my experience was that I found staff to be friendly, but so are those at my local supermarket.

I experienced an extremely poor experience at Embio Clinic where I received an embryo transfer using egg donation.
Extremely unprofessional. Poor level of customer care and service.

"I would have no hesitation in recommending"

Treatment Received: IVF with Donor Eggs
I was a little anxious before we visited the clinic as it was a big step to take travelling to Greece as we had found them online, but straight away on our first visit to the clinic I was put at ease, the facility was state of the art and very impressive!

It was a busy clinic and a lot of the patients seemed to be local, so this also reassured me that they seem to have a good name locally.

My partner is over 50 and ivf would have been more difficult in the UK. But here they were very relaxed about this and confident it could succeed. We were given a tour of the building and the staff were very friendly. The treatment didn't take too long and we were able to enjoy the rest of the holiday at the hotel pool. We're now excitedly awaiting our new arrivals (which are 5 weeks off) and are so happy and thankful to Dr Paraschos, Sotiria and all the other staff for all their help. I would have no hesitation in recommending EmBIO.

"Happily awaiting the birth of our triplets, 2 boys and 1 girl!"

Treatment Received: IVF with Donor Eggs,FET - Frozen Embryo Transfer
We'd been considering a child for over a year, but knew at my age of then 50, no clinic in England would touch me.

I searched the Internet, and found various bits of information. Then I came across Embio Clinic, I emailed them, and they sent me a list of questions about where my cycle was up to date, once they had this they gave me more details of tests I should have here in England, which meant I'd be able to start the treatment here, then just go to Greece for the embryo transfer! All my questions and concerns were answered very quickly.

When we arrived at the clinic, very nervous and anxious, I was soon put at ease by the staff (Sotiria). The building was state of the art, and immaculate.

We were introduced to Dr Paraschos who was lovely, very calm and reassuring. He answered any questions I had and we were also taken round the building showing us the lab and where the procedure would take place.

Unfortunately the first treatment was unsuccessful, I was shocked at how upset I was. The clinic were very supportive and offered a second treatment, with a discount. Now bordering on 51 I knew this would be my last chance.

My partner and I agreed to give it one last go.

So we organised a second visit, we had the transfer the day of our arrival, and chilled at the pool for the rest of the week.

I am now 24 weeks pregnant, and happily awaiting the birth of our triplets, 2 boys and 1 girl! I cannot thank Dr Paraschos and his staff enough.
