Intraocular Lenses

For cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange, I use premium monofocal and multifocal lens implants to minimise or eliminate use of glasses.

PRP - Panretinal Photocoagulation

Panretinal photocoagulation involves the use of Argon laser for treatment of retinal conditions like Diabetic retinopathy, Central or branch retinal vein block or other assorted conditions. Argon laser is also used for treatment of retinal tears, glaucoma. Eye clinic at Westland Medical Centre is equipped with Argon laser as well as YAG laser.

RLE - Refractive Lens Exchange

Refractive lens exchange, presbyopic lens exchange or clear lens extraction is a procedure akin to cataract surgery. It aims to eliminate the need for glasses in people over 45 years of age who want spectacle independence for both near and distance. Multifocal lens implants are used for this operation. In cases where there is associated astigmatism, customised toric multifocal lens implants are utilised.

Typically, as we cross 45 years, we become more dependent on reading glasses. This is called Presbyopia and this can occur along with short-sightedness, long-sightedness or astigmatism. With this technology, one need not wait for cataracts to develop. Natural lens can be removed in a similar way with replacement with this multifocal lens implant and is a viable alternative to laser vision correction in this age group.

Majority of patients are operated under a local anesthetic with or without intravenous sedation as day cases.

Squint Reduction

Plastic Surgery

Brow Lift

Drooping of eyebrow usually occurs as age related changes or following facial paralysis. When associated with baggy eyelids, both brow lift and blepharoplasty can be done as a combined procedure

Eyelid surgery
Asian Blepharoplasty

Baggy eyelids are not only a cosmetic blemish but also affect the quality of vision. Upper and lower blepharoplasty procedures correct this condition and involve removal of redundant skin and re-positioning or removal of fat pockets. Blepharoplasty can be combined with brow lift to achieve a better cosmetic outcome

Eye Lift

Ptosis or droopy eyelids occur with age, following injury, in conditions like myasthenis gravis and myotonic dystrophy or neurological conditions like paralysis of 3rd cranial nerve or in children who can be born with droopy eyelids. Surgical correction of droopy eyelids involves tightening/ resection of levator muscle and Mueller's muscle. Ptosis surgery is usually done under local anesthetic combined with blepharoplasty.
