What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are artificial screws made of titanium or zirconium oxide that connect the jawbone and a dental restoration like a crown or denture. They are also called ‘endosseous’ implants or fixtures. They are an artificial tooth root. Once implanted, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone like part of the body. Dental surgeons perform bone grafting procedures to hold the implant in place for patients who do not have enough surrounding bone structure, or graft bone to help connect implants to the maxillary sinuses on either side of the nose when placing dental implants in the upper jaw.

How long does it take to fit a Dental Implant?

The time taken for inserting dental implants depends on the bone structure and needs of each individual patient. Some implant procedures take about 15 minutes while others may take up to two hours. Implant procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. Intravenous sedation is used for the comfort of anxious patients.

How long does it take to recover after getting a Dental Implant?

Recovery time after a dental implant procedure may take four to six weeks or up to 12 weeks for some patients. Patients can travel one day after the insertion of a single dental implant. Patients who require multiple dental implants or supporting surgical procedures should wait for around two weeks before travelling. They should meet the dental surgeon to get a certification of being fit to travel before embarking on their journey.

What should I do after getting a Dental Implant?

Patients should rest and avoid exertion after surgery. They should also avoid vigorously brushing their teeth or rinsing their mouth.

What are the alternatives to Dental Implants?

Alternatives to dental implants include fixed bridges and dentures.

FRating from 1 Review Very efficient and professional service from the booking stage to the appointment itselfAifric, Kilkenny, 22 Feb 18

I had a root canal treatment with Dr. McCann. Very efficient and professional service from the booking stage to the appointment itself. I was a very nervous patient and found both the friendliness, knowledge and professionalism of the dentist and nurse very calming. Dr. McCann explained the procedure clearly and calmed my nerves before starting the treatment. The cost of the procedure was very competitive and I was extremely happy with the price. Again, the service received exceeds the price paid. I would highly recommend.

James worked with me to devise a dental plan to rebuild soft teeth, which had too many fillings over the years. In simple terms, he stripped back every tooth, removed every old filling, and rebuilt all my teeth. - It was a 2-year plan, with a lot of heavy sessions. But I have absolutely no regrets. The service from James and his staff is exceptional. Huge thanks also to Stephanie who managed all appointments and payment plan.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are artificial replacements for natural teeth lost due to tooth decay, gum disease, or injury. The implant consists of a titanium post that acts as a tooth root and is surgically fitted into the jaw. Either a crown or a bridge is attached to the titanium post as the substitute tooth. Titanium is a safe substance that easily fuses with the gum tissue to support the crown or bridge replacement teeth. Our resident dentists will explain the process to you in more detail and how it is our laboratory custom-makes the titanium posts, crowns or bridges to uniquely fit your mouth

Dental Implants £1200  -  £2000
A dental implant is essentially a substitute for a natural root and commonly it is a screw, which is cylinder shaped. Each implant is placed into a socket carefully drilled at the precise location of the intended tooth. The main aim during installation of any implant is to achieve immediate close contact with the surrounding bone. This creates an initial stability, which over time is steadily enhanced by further growth of bone into microscopic roughness on the implant surface.

Foyle Dental Spa

Rating from 4 Reviews Absolutely lovely practiceAnn, Ireland, 23 Dec 17

Last night one of my front crowns came off. I called the dental spa and they said they would put me on the emergency list if an appointment came up. Got a phone call back almost immediately - the receptionist had spoken with the dentist and she said she would sort it for me! I can’t tell you how happy I am! Because it’s Christmas, I thought I’d have to stay in for the week! The care and attention I received was second to none. Absolutely lovely practice. I would highly recommend them!

Dental Implants
A dental implant is a small, sturdy, titanium post that acts as the root structure would for a natural tooth. A dental implant is placed into your upper or lower jawbone. After the bone has grown around the implant, implants can hold a crown, bridge or over-denture just like roots hold natural teeth in place. Implants are very durable and can last a lifetime. They require the same maintenance as natural teeth; this includes brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups. Many patients have told us that dental implants have transformed their lives, enabling them to smile with confidence!
